| Hello All. Glad to be here. Ive been a lurker at the CGC boards for a longtime and figured this would be a great time to get my feet wet and participate in the community at large. Ive collected my whole life and within the last few years I have really put extra effort into it. I hope to start a journal of sorts to let those interested follow my buying/selling habits. | Hello everyone, Justin from Milwaukee checking in. I post under oldmilwaukee6er at CGC (and CPG, STL boards before), which was my first Hotmail account back in the day. I suppose it was meant to illustrate both enjoyment of my 'cheap beer o choice' coming up and my fascination with the Brew City. I collect lots of things (poison bottles, Nemadji pottery, vintage video game systems, patches, explosive crates, signs, & counterculture memorabilia), but comics have been primary since about age 16. I am a dues-paying member of the Wisconsin Antique & Advertising Club since its inception. Generally, I lean toward non-superhero indy and alternative comics. From 2002-2013, I hyper-focused on underground comix from the 1960s-1970s, old hippie comics. It was during this period that I became active on message boards, met other underground collectors, and began working on an Excel database that would (in no small part) lead to the creation of the first reference guide on undergrounds since 1982 (Fogel's Underground Comix Price Guide). For my efforts, I earned the title of Asst. Database Editor and a complete run of Cherry Poptart. Like most, I ebb and flow and 3 cross-country moves have helped keep the collection in check through the years. However, since settling in the Brew City I have been in an accumulation phase. These days I daydream about downsizing to just a handful of key Silver Age books, Zap Comix & Freak Brothers. Perhaps 3-4 short boxes max. Eventually I will. My grail right now is Amazing Spider-man #1. I run-collect Usagi Yojimbo (my favorite read) and Spawn, and enjoy sliding over to my LCS for the odd new pull. As for work, I teach p/t for two universities, namely environmental science, but also lead student assessment and faculty development / management initiatives. Prior to this I was an environmental scientist for about 14 years in Montana & Louisiana. I love to work, volunteer, ride my bicycle, pick antique malls, drink beer, listen to live music and play disc golf. Probably oversharing here, but I figure I'll lurk without posting as I learn the ropes. Be well, Om |
