So happy to hear the recent announcement that TAT's for Moderns are on an 8 week basis!

I interpreted the announcement differently than you. I believe the 8 week TAT for moderns ONLY applies to books turned in at the C2E2 "Off-Site" event that CBCS has set up at Reggies Chicago (a resturant/bar/ record store)

CBCS's website says Modern tier is at 15-20 weeks and there are plenty of people commenting here that have books turned in from last year they are still waiting on.

I will have to take it back...

On one FB page Steve Paulus said:
Steve Paulus: All submissions received as of 3/20

I'm still not exactly sure how to interpret this. I don't mean to parse words and meaning to death, but the answer is not "all books received 3/20 and there after."

There are people commenting on CBCS's Facebook page that they have moderns - no pressing in since December they are still waiting on.

So IDK. I hope it is true that CBCS is now going to have an 8 week TAT on moderns from know on. It could be that they intend to have 8 weeks from today forward and there are still some submitted earlier that they are going to get done soon.

@Jesse_O
OK. This explains it fully. 8 weeks starts today. Books received before then may take longer.

Great news!

We're going to be smarter about announcing turnaround times this coming year. There are basically two turnaround times. The turnaround time for what we are currently shipping, and the turnaround time for what you can expect if you submit a book today.

In the past, we have been only giving the turnaround time for what was shipping today, which is a totally irrelevant time if you are submitting a book today and want to know when you'll get it back. Here's how that works, and these dates and numbers are totally hypothetical for the sake of demonstration.

Let's say that today is April 1st, and we are shipping books that we received on January 1st. The turnaround time for books shipping today is 13 weeks. This is what we traditionally would announce as the "current CBCS turnaround time."

If you submitted books today expecting a 13 week turnaround time, you may not receive it because there is an unknown factor, in that we could have received 100,000 books between January 1st and April 1st. If we can only process 1,000 books per day, it would take us 20 weeks to process the books that are in the queue in front of the order you send in today, meaning you would not see your books for around 20 weeks. Our customers are getting frustrated because the turnaround doesn't reflect how long it will take their order submitted today to be processed.

CBCS has a much more robust way of predicting the turnaround time going forward. We are now using data of how many books we have in-house, and know the average number of books we process per day/week, which allows us to give a much more accurate turnaround for books you submit today.

For example, on the Pressing side, we are currently pressing orders from around 22 weeks ago. That is what we are shipping out from pressing now. If you submit a book today, based on the number of books we have in-house and the number of books we press per week, the turnaround for those orders will be roughly 10-12 weeks.

The 8 weeks in the announcement is based on what is in-house and the number of books they grade and process per week. That's how long it should take to get what you submit today shipped out. I honestly think we should give a window of say 8-10 weeks, just to make sure we cover any variation in production.

These are the numbers we will be giving customers going forward at shows and when submitting books, because we want them to have a more accurate time of when they'll get their booksite back. The turnaround time on books we are shipping today is totally irrelevant.

That's good news and makes a lot of sense. I wish you guys would have done that earlier. It probably would have saved a lot of hurt feelings.

You know what's funny?

I work at Costco with Pizza, and it's open to non-members located in a mall.

I am always asking the pizza makers.. "What's the TATS (turn around time) on a PIZZA right now??"

and they give me the time.. now my coworkers are starting to use that term (TATS)
several have asked me, "where did you pick up that Term..??"

I'm LIKE

"CBCS FORUMS!!!"

It is good to see CBCS gravitating to a similar form with use when placing PIZZA ORDERS.. LOL.

@IronMan, Tony I also interpreted it the same way but directly asked Steve Paulus and he stated that all submissions from 3/20 forward will have that TAT. I am also wary of that statement as I also saw people posting that their December submissions still haven't come back. I am sure that the start of the con season will set those TAT's back but if CBCS wants to stay afloat they better try hard and do as they say. I am still on the CBCS train and really hope they can! @SteveRicketts April 1st, really? I hope its not an April fool's prank! lol

Just throwing in my order status... I have an order with sig verification from 12-12 that's in labels (hadn't checked it before, so not sure when it got to grading/labels) and a fast press/fast pass order from 12-25 that's also in labels after having been in grading for a week or so. It does seem like December is getting cleared out.
