Scratch all that comic advice. Save the $400, sell another $400 or so worth of books and you will have enough dough to get one of the sorts of 'lil doggies in my avatar. Toy rat terriers are fiesty, and very fun, dogs. They're also cute as Hell. |

I kicked off this thread than went to bed. Thanks for all the info and suggestions everyone. A few people asked what I like. Probably my favorite all time series Are Preacher and Transmetropolitan, but I have full runs and decent grades of both. Favorite marvel super hero books, with the caveat-ive given up on them, are x men, asm, daredevil. Favorite dc, pretty much just batman and gl. I've always wanted a gsx or a as 129, but I gotta keep saving for both. I love old ec horror covers. I appreciate all the solicitations too. I really just mostly wanted to see what others would do. If you had 400 You could spend guilt free on a comic (s) investment, what are you buying? Thanks everyone |

If you are into non-superhero, I personally think this is a fantastic Sgt. Rock cover, not a key really, but the cover is so unique and eye catching. It is very hard to find for sale in high grade slabbed, but is easily under $400. |

There is one signed by Giffen on Ebay and the asking price is an astonishing $1500.00 Be careful though. Some on Ebay try to make you think the book they are selling is a CBCS or CGC graded book, and it is not. They are just throwing "search words" into titles. @conditionfreak I have a 9.6 Omega Men 3, is it worth an upgrade? As for getting something I genuinely like, the last time I had "extra" paypal money, I bought a graded Comico Primer 2, because I always wanted one and Grendel was also one of my favorite books. So my spending is not always rational or financially motivated, ha. I guess this time I was looking for something that is gonna hold value, that may already be getting pricey, that maybe someday i could flip. I saw a spiderman suggestion and i do have an ASM 300 in 9.4, a ASM 361 9.6 What about avenging spiderman 9? There are raws in the 200-250 range, do others think that will hold value? Or does it crash after the initial movie hype? How about early Swamp thing? I didn't look at those yet, and I have always enjoyed that book and its covers. |

Quote:Originally Posted by LotsaSequel 90 day GPA average is a good price, which is $252....so $250 is the sweet spot. You may be able to get one cheaper, but I wouldn't count on that. I have a single raw copy which will be a 9.8 once it's slabbed. I'm going to put $550 on it, when it's slabbed, and just wait. If I end up getting a 9.6, I'll put $275 on it and wait. Than again, I won't be subbing it in til Baltimore in September, the movie may show some movement by than so it at be selling for $550+ in 9.8 already. Either way, Lobo has a pretty large fan base and this book has never had a truly signifigant mass media shot to the arm price hike. Once some actual Lee way is made on this book, not just the small transient-ish spike it had a few months back from a rumor about a movie....it'll be selling for at least double it's current FMV. Lobo is DC's Deadpool, never mind he that he came around 6 years before Deadpool. I think this book will end up settling at around $650; after the trailers hit. |

So yeah, odds of getting a 9.8 below $250 are not favorable i.e. slim to none....The book has been consistent at $250+ since the movie rumor kicked in. $250 IMHO, is a good value( buy in price) for this book in 9.8. |

CGC 9.8 $274.95 CBCS 9.8 $27460 Odds are one of those guys will take $260+ shipping. All other listing are around $300 BIN's; most don't have BO'S available. Funny thing is if those 2 guys just put BIN's at the same prices they have now with no best offer, they'd probably sell at full sticker. Leaving the going rate at $300+ for 9.8's. |

Here's another book from 1958 that Jack Kirby did for DC that is very hard to find in nicer grades, but is somewhat considered to be a prototype for the Fantastic Four that Kirby and Lee created 3 years later for Marvel. Here's the copy I had and sold about 3 years ago. Here's a close-up of the notation on the label. |

Another goodie like this book is Tales Of The Unexpected #16. Character named "Thor"; story is called "Magic Hammer" or something like that....that story is a legit prototype of Thor with Jack Kirby art I've been after copies of this book for a few years; been looking for raws with nice PQ, that I can clean and press to get 8.0's out of. Been at least 3 years, haven't seen any cherry HG's yet. I was actually about to list one of them on eBay tomorrow...probably won't list the nicer copies til I press them, though. Got 3 of them...A GD, and 2 copies around FN. CGC label on graded copies of this book notates something like: "character named Thor by Kirby, predates JIM 83" Anyone interested, LMK if ya want pics/scans; I'd sell any 1 of them. Hell, I'd sell all of them. |
