Why would you send these or anything to CGC when you, especially, know how corrupt that company is and how damaging CGC cases are? You always talk about what’s right for the hobby. How can you consciously do business with CGC?

I am a bit weirded out by your comments (Even, maybe, a touch offended), as you really don't even really know me. sorry!

I truly feel that I do so much for the hobby. I am NOT trying to brag as I love what I do. Raising $ for the Hero Initiative charity without making money, I teach ethics to the new collectors, I teach them grading, restoration detection and to buy the book, not the label. I also tell collector's, every chance I get, buy what you love and can afford as you will enjoy our hobby more. I could go on, but to heck with that. AND....I don't make money doing that when I could be making some $, but I do it because I LOVE OUR HOBBY AND THE MANY GREAT FRIENDS I HAVE MADE IN IT FOR THE LAST 50 years.

I am not a rich man because I never took a bribe to up or change a grade or PQ or ignore small restoration. Now that I think more about it, I am pretty sure that I could have made a fortune, and I am talking millions..... Too many greedy people in our hobby, idiots!

I make people millionaires; I will never be more than a middle-class guy. I don't care. I just want to help collectors and sellers, but I still need to make a living as we all work for the Pharoh anyway. 🤬

Hence this thread, as I really need a car by yesterday 🤣🤣

If you think CBCS is any better, I could tell you many stories. When I saw what Beckett was doing to the company we created, I left. Stayed way too long, but I really cared for my employees/friends that worked there. And see, I was correct! BUMMER!!!!

Heck, the idiots there fired Matt (Best sig guy in our hobby!), Tim (Best foreign expert I have ever met) and Pam (She was the only real C.S. and problem solvers as well as helping create CBCS! A backbone of the company as much I was.) She was also working about 50-55 hours a week for them! She gave 101% to them and they just let the best go on one day with no notice and a crappy amount of money for someone who was so integral to the original success of CBCS. When you don't have enough "experts", the ship sinks.

How the heck did they decide to, not only fire him with no notice, but for 2 weeks West was trashed by and sued by them. All on the internet! He should sue for that, but they have lawyers on retainers and could keep him in legal hell for years. West proved that Beckett lied. Still...it will be on the web forever! Rust never sleeps.....


Also, no notice or payout to their primary grader who took over when I left.



I basically set up comic book certification (CGC) with Mark Haspel and Paul Litch, both honest and great people, and great for our amazing hobby.

I went on to create CBCS with West Stephan, Steve Ricketts, Jousha St. Amand(SP?), the amazing Pam Kesten (Moma Pam to many).
once again, we tried to create something positive for our hobby. Corporations mostly suck! Especially when they have no clue what needs to be done! At least CGC used the advice, ethics and standards Mark and I set. We rocked it (CBCS) until my partner didn't have the money he said and sold it to Beckett to get out. After that....game over. Beckett never lived up to the promises. And, once again, I am the one who got screwed

Both times, we tried to protect our hobby. In 1999, I had never thought we would see the craziness that certification has brought to our hobby. If you think things are worse off now, you should (did?) have seen it in the 90's. We were in trouble, if you remember. Our hobby was not safe for a novice, people were ripping collectors off on Feebay with missing pages, married/repo covers, tons of undisclosed restoration, coupons clipped. Same with some convention dealers, but we chased a bunch of them out with the advent of certification.

WE WERE PROTECTING OUR COMMUNITY. But, as they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions...

I work for the most honest auction house in comics. All ComicLink auctions/sales are almost all graded by CGC. That's why I use CGC 98% of the time. My clients/friends won't use most other grading services, as is there right to get the most money they can for their collection. That's my job. I would never use another place to sell my better books or art. I AM NOT ALLOWED TO BID ON THEM. Because these are not huge money pieces, and I need to raise some scratch quick, is the only reason that group of books did not go to CGC yet. Josh is cool with that.

Do you buy gas for your car?
Do you use Amazon?
Do you attend the MEGA corporate comic cons?
Do you pay a mortgage to a mega bank?
Do you ever go to Disney or Universal?
Do you eat fast food?
Do you buy food from mega corporations, or do you grow your own?
Do you buy Marvel or D.C comics?
Do you buy Pepsi or Coke products?
Do you check when buying any wood and make sure that it's not from the rain forest?
Do you have a bank account and/or credit cards?
Do you by shoes and clothes made by children overseas?
Do you watch TV and movies?
Do you watch sports?

I could go on, but these companies and many others are ruining our planet or our way of life and taking too much money out of our pockets because they can. UGH! And let's not talk about a president who sells bibles, sneakers and such! Just wrong!

Sorry for the rant, but you stated your opinions on a public forum about me not doing the correct thing to make a decent living while making people think I don't care about you and all the other hobbyists! I am always upfront and honest. I don't want that to go unanswered on the web. We can have a conversation about our hobby's ethics and certification. Happy to do so!
