I am looking forward to heading down to Ford Field this weekend, where the Lions have a bounce back game against Jacksonville. Although Detroit managed to get the W last week it still felt like a loss. Hopefully Taylor Decker is good to go this week, and if not, the Lions have a better plan than starting Dan Skipper at LT. Skipper is a popular player in Detroit, but no way is he qualified to start. He is kind of like that lovable shelter pet that finally found a forever home after getting cut year after year and spending time on seemingly every practice squad. The knock on Jared Goff has always been that if you get consistent blind side pressure on him he will start seeing ghosts and throwing it up for grabs. I had to laugh when Collinsworth said on the broadcast that Skipper was doing fine and not the cause of Goff’s interceptions. Both Skipper and the guy he was trying to block were in Goff’s lap on virtually every drop back in the first half. The Lions adjusted the scheme somewhat in the second half, pulling Skipper on some plays and giving him help on others, but Goff was clearly already rattled by then. They can’t expect to get away with starting Skipper again, even against a weak opponent like the Jags.
Enjoy the game! |
