Yea... I just saw this earlier. Things are getting interesting in the industry. (And never heard of these "sub-grades". It sounds like grader notes) |

To me, sub-grades sounds like taking each item that makes up the grade of a book and assigning it an individual grade, e.g. cover - 9.4, page quality - 9.2, registration - 9.6, and so on... giving an overall grade of 9.4. | ||

Given the use of subgrades from both companies for cards; I wouldn’t be surprised if PSA already had developed their own comic book subgrade processes. With the information given in the video it definitely does not look good for Wilson and Stephen. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I want CBCS to protect their property, but I also want to see PSA in the game and hopefully this suit only involves Wilson and Stephen through actions on their own volition if indeed using CBCS trade secrets. |

Sub-grades on comics will not help PSA marketplace acceptance, it will hurt it. Reserved Investments on YouTube has made points about grading differences between video game grading companies and this would hold true for sub-grades on comics. The 10 point system is firmly established with the only other grade being PQD. Sub grades on comics will muddy the waters in determining FMV for a specific numerical grade on a book graded by CGC, CBCS and PSA. This will not be seen as a innovation, you can’t expect trying to invent the wheel to yield a positive result. |

West has never been the most personable of individuals, even when he was at the cgc. Someone with a little charm would be nice. You know, someone that could grace the peons with their presence on occasion. |

Once I heard that Wilson/Stephen sent information to their own personal e-mail this sounds like a slam dunk to me. Not sure of the repercussions - once someone has IP it's hard to ignore it. I would also like to point out that PSA screwed the pooch here too. NDA's are nothing new and many industries have a clause where you cannot go to a competitor with XX period...presumably because the industry will have changed or the new project will have been launched. No idea what was in CBCS/Beckett NDA but they "should" have had something like that - I always assumed they did an that was part of why when Steve left CGC he did dome other things before starting up CBCS IF that clause existed PSA should have just waited to hire them Very lease PSA will not be allowed to hire them - CBCS will go after them for $$ and go after PSA for $$ Also, also...very interesting that the senior leadership at CBCS were so unhappy with things that they were poached by a competitor.....not a good look for CBCS I imagine that Stephen was walked out of the building once the e-mails were discovered...so by all account not just a good grader but an industry leader in restoration detection gone from CBCS..... |

Would like to say that CBCS/Beckett need to get out in front of this a bit - they won't... but it would be smart if they did. i.e. - There have been recent changes at CBCS (which we cannot address at the moment) but we would like to take the opportunity to introduce our stellar new "insert title here" with a run down of who they are, experience, skills, do they like long walks on the beach? etc. etc. I by no means am a comic grading industry buff...but it seems to me to be very, very...incestuous (didn't both these guys start out at CGC in the early days - then moved to CBCS - now tried to go to PSA) When senior leadership is unhappy generally all the people they hired are unhappy idk...I'm a low level peon but even I have been approached over the years...and I always reject any communication because I'm happy doing what I'm doing where I'm doing it!! |

BECAUSE OF THE NATURE OF MY POST ABOUT WEST. I WANT TO MAKE IT VERY CLEAR BECAUSE OF MY "CHAT NAME" ON THE BOARDS, THAT THESE COMMENTS WERE FROM ME PERSONNALY AND NOT COMICKLINK OR ANY OF THIER EMPLOYESS. COMICLINK HAS NOTHING AGAINST CGC, PSA OR CBCS. NEITHER DO I. WEST IS MY BROTHER AND I WILL DEFEND ANY HOBBYIST UNTIL PROVEN/FOUND GUILTY. IF IT TURNS OUT I WAS WRONG, AS YOU ALL KNOW, I WOULD IMMEDIATLY SAY SO IN PUBLIC FORUMS. I JUST DON'T WANT THIS TO RUIN A CARRER OF A PROMINENT HOBBYIST AND HURT HIS CHANCES OF EMPLOYMENT, SO THAT HE CAN MAKE A LIVING TO HOUSE AND FEED HIS FAMILY. Here is my response to the YouTube show thread that I have posted: @SteveBorockYouTube 1 hour ago 1st: I would be more than happy to come on you show and help explain many details that I know and will also find out. (Loved being on with you before!) Mark Wilson was not the head grader of CBCS. He quit after I was gone a long time, was not sure why at first. I did hear that he was joining another comic book selling company, but that fell through BEFORE going to PSA. I know he left as he thought he was not earning the money a Senior Grader should. He was a very good worker. PSA talked to me before that, but I would not move (I came back to Florida to be with our kids and 5 grandkids) and I told them I was no longer interested in starting a grading service again or sitting in a seat grading all day. In '17 I tried to open a grading company (CBCS) that was hobby friendly, truly impartial, transparent and hiring the best. I also hate monopolies and wanted better for our wonderful hobby. I am 61 now and had set up at my 1st show at 12. I've been around a couple of days....LOL! My 1st choice as my "second in command" was West. He is a true hobbyist, a top pedigree expert, amazing grader and, especially, one of the best restoration detection experts in the world. West and I set the grading standards and ethics for CBCS and, for the 1st 3 years, we were gang busters until my partner said that he had to sell to Beckett as he was running out of money, even though I told him it took CGC 5 years to make a dollar (or at least, that was what I was told by the powers that be at CGC at the time). I got screwed six ways to Sunday. West did not disseminate ANY information to PSA or anyone else and is not doing so now. As far as I know at this moment he will NOT be working for PSA in the near future and has not ever worked there. I have much more that I could say, but I need to get back to work for ComicLink today, we are killing it, and I am working about 50-60 hours a week. I don't mind! I love what I do, love our great hobby, I love helping newer collectors learn ethics and grading and, most importantly, the fantastic hobbyists in it! |
