Qualify for pressing20284

I recently submitted a verified signature, will these notes qualify to resubmit my signature book for pressing? Will I have to resubmit a form for a signature verification?

In my opinion the dents should be pressable, and the signature if verified by cbcs previously or cgc should just be carried over. I've only submitted one reholder for signature though.

what was the grade? chances are the indents being pressed out may be the only thing a press will fix and may not result in a grade bump due to the colour breaking spine stress and bends & creases that also break colour

colour break can't be pressed out

@Bronte this was my first submission with CBCS curious to listen from other collectors like yourself on similar experiences and grade bumps.

@Gr8gramBeemo I'm assuming you sent in the book in the slab (CGC or CBCS: yellow label). If the signature was witnessed, it will retain the witnessed signature designation. If you sent in a CGC green label slab or raw book, then the signature will go through the signature verification program. Keep in mind that a failed verification does not mean the signature is fake. It simply means it can not be verified.

Graders Notes:
indents and non-colour breaking bends can typically be pressed out and may assist in a grade bump. You'd have to take the condition of the whole book into consideration to get a better handle on that. Colour breaking bends/creases can not be helped by pressing and there will be no bump in grade.

P.S. You can press any and every book you want. You don't need to qualify anything to press. If you're asking about qualifying to get a grade bump you can always press-screen your book on the submission form and ask the experts if the book will benefit from a press.

One follow up question here that might be useful to know (and I forget the answer to this question):

If a book is submitted with "Press screen" selected and the screener believes that the book WOULD benefit from pressing, does the submitter have to pay for BOTH the press screen and the press?

If I'm remembering correctly, we only have to pay for press screen if the screener determines that the book WOULD NOT benefit from pressing. I may be wrong though.

Yes. You gotta pay twice. Just opt for pressing. Press screen is pointless.

If that's the case, then you are 100% correct. Thanks!

Press screening is only pointless if you are going to press regardless. Press screening has a purpose because it's cheaper to press screen and not press rather than going ahead with pressing and no grade bump is realized.

Forgive my ignorance, but why would you press screen if you were not planning to press? From my perspective, the whole point to press screen is to see if you can get a better grade. It seems to me the chances are minimal that they say the book doesn't need a press. Then you end up paying twice.

Edit

The only time I can see this being a factor is if the pages were brittle, or the book. Wasn't a candidate for pressing, but if that were the case the presser would reject the for pressing. That has happened to me in the past.

The benefit of press screen has gone down since they raised the price. There used to be, to my eyes, two main pluses:

If the book didn't need to be pressed, you didn't pay for it. That's the obvious point of the service. But there are more circumstances where it may not happen then just brittle books. There's also books where the grade is limited by a non-pressable feature, like staining or a color-breaking crease. Related, if you're sending 9.8 candidates, they might not need a press but you pay for the screen to try and make sure they max out. Depending on your own observational skills and what you're sending in, there could be plenty of books that don't need a press but you think they might.

The second was you could use press screen as a way to delay part of your payment. Since you aren't charged for pressing until it happens, even if you know for sure you want to get your books pressed you could pay the screen fee and just pay grading when the order arrives in Texas. Then you pay the pressing part later.

Both of those benefits have gone down. For the second, you have to pay more upfront now since the screen fee is $10 (I think it used to be $5). For the first, you still do save the $15-$45 per book on pressing if they don't press, but you have to proportionately send more non-pressed books now to make the fee make sense. If everything you send ends up getting pressed, the screen fee is more noticeable now.

I press or do not.

You could look at it as playing your odds. Like how many unpressed 9.2s can you submit to CGC for 9.8s. Some will win some will lose.

@GAC awesome! I have concerns for that grade bump. Slowly just loving the grade that it is now
