That said, people like to talk about lack of contribution, but then don't contribute. It's like complaining that the church is low on money, but then ignoring the collection plate as it passes. Not to single out anyone in particularly.

Conversation on a chat board isn't a self starter.

It's true, but perhaps if the boundaries of acceptable discussion were not so narrow, that would also spur contribution.

I didn't realize not being able to talk about pressing techniques, drugs, and politics was so restrictive.

I know, right? But I guess it restricts posting movie names, jokes, gun ownership debates, anywhere that there is disagreement about social issues. Even prognosticating about the economy and how it will affect the comic book market can get a thread locked.

Perhaps it's not the topic, but how the topic is discussed by those involved that gets the thread locked. But that couldn't be it. It has to be moderation, not the way someone conducts themselves.

There's definitely something wrong with moderation though. How have I made it this long without even a minor suspension?

Does it have to be an either/or answer? Could it be a combination of both?

You've just earned the benefit of the doubt through good behavior. It's like accident forgiveness on an insurance policy.

Or maybe he just knows I'm sensitive and doesn't want to make me cry.

In all seriousness I don't know what kind of emotions I'd have if I got suspended. I would probably just understand it was necessary and move on instead of getting all worked up about it. If I got banned however, I could see myself shedding some tears.

Do you think any past forum members have cried upon being permanently banned?

I think the last person to suffer from a suspension was artist Vaughn Bode.

Moderation is like pruning a tree.

Targeted, balanced pruning can yield something both aesthetically pleasing and in good health.

Random, unbalanced or overly aggressive pruning can stunt growth and even weaken its roots. In a storm, that tree may not survive.

Any of the ones I can remember off the top of my head strike me as more of the "I'm better without them" types. Stiff upper lip and a pour of bourbon, that kind of thing. Then they just went to another forum to post racist stuff.

The only one like this I can recall passed away. Was he banned before that? I can't remember his username, but he was a retired police officer. I think his name was Walter[?]

I think that was condition freak.

Everyone that has been banned from the forum either wouldn't or couldn't work within an established set of parameters. They were given multiple chances. It's not a one and done system.

When the forum was being tested, it was decided that there wouldn't be any limits on topics of conversation, with maybe the exception of pressing techniques. Every restriction that has been placed on conversation since the go live date has been the result of members not being able to handle the conversational freedom given to them from the onset.

There's certainly been more than one person happy to post some questionable opinions who don't post any more. My memory is that more than one of them was banned but maybe there was some opting out as well.

That's why Steve Ricketts created the pinned New Message Board Atmosphere thread. The moderation members and myself try to allow as much freedom of topic as we can.

I would rather talk on here then Twitter x whatever the hell it is. Moderation seems to help. People forgot how to do that themselves. Obviously not everyone but enough people to make it suck.

Easy enough. Of course, since Disney's stock is in freefall, dropping lower than it has since 2014, it's too bad they couldn't do the same.

just watched Blue Beetle. I really enjoyed it. It was fun. It wasnt the best super hero or even the best dc but it was far from the worst.

Ive been looking at my graded Infinite Crisis #3 (Jamie's first appearance) and #5 (his first appearance as blue beetle)
