Oh, I agree with the logistics for the customer. That wasn't really my point. To be honest I feel like the whole process is dumb. You either want a press or not, as far as I'm concerned. I think it's an angle taking advantage of people. Really? How non biased can you be when the pressing service is under the same roof of the graders???

If they offer it and people choose to use it, so be it.

Which is why @Bronte is so confused. I don't think anyone uses press screen unless they misinterpret the service or are using it on one of the higher tiers. Is it possible that the terms changed in recent years and they used to not charge if it passed?

I thought it wasn't charged if the book went to Pressing. I can't say for sure that's how it was but it's what I thought.

I've contemplated sending this in since I purchased it 2 years ago. Do you think it would be worth the risk for a potential grade bump?
I'd only have it graded if it passed a press screening in hopes of getting a 9.6. If not I'd have them just mail it back. The cost would be about $70 if they rejected it or $170 if I proceeded to have it pressed, graded and verified. From what I've read they can press screen while it's in the slab.

@flanders, from what I can tell thats one of your favorite books. Why wouldn't you just have it pressed, verified, and in a CBCS yellow label. Why care of the grade of a book that from what I can tell means so much to you?

@flanders I'm probably not the best one to ask but I'll let you know my opinion.

For me, I would get CBCS to grade that book for the sole purpose of getting rid of the green label.

If you are confident the signature will pass verification...if it were my book, I wouldn't care if the grade took a hit to a 9.2 or even 9.0 as long as the signature verifies. If it failed (and took a grade hit) then I'd be annoyed. In my opinion, a verified signature is more important than maintaining the grade.

Now, if you get it pressed and it gets a grade bump plus a VSP, then that's the best outcome but otherwise, regarding the grade, if it drops to a 9.0 with a verified signature, that wouldn't bother me at all. The green label though is not my thing....at all.

In addition to the above, why care about the color of the label? If you like it the way it is and have no plans to sell it, leave it alone. Don't get hung up on the label. Spend the money on something else.

Agreed on the color of label. One says verified signature. The other says chicken scratch.

This is a visual representation of what I see when I see a CGC green label due to a signature.

If the signature will pass verification, complete the puzzle and put the mystery to rest....just my opinion.

@flanders I'm in a different camp, I would keep it as is. The mystery of the potential outcome is probably part of what makes the book intriguing to you. It still has some story left in it.

Not a question but this seems like the most appropriate thread for random story time. My wife went to an estate sale that had some comic books. From the listing I knew they had some old Wonder Woman at least so I asked her to take a look for me. She wasn't early, so she had to wait to go in and some other folks had already gotten to go through things. They had some in boxes that were unbagged and beat up, some decent ones that were bagged and like $10-25, and some good ones that they were keeping at the table. She sends me some pictures of the mid range stuff and it looks ok but not up my alley.

She gets to the table and says that all of the good stuff has been bought already. The one thing left is a Wonder Woman 25. That's still cool though, and they're only asking $125. She sends me a picture of the front and back and says it looks like the spine is pretty rough, there's some staining or something, etc. I have her ask if it's complete, and they tell her that they checked everything out and researched them and priced accordingly. On her own, because she's the best, my wife opens up the book and notices that Wonder Woman isn't actually in there. It's a Woody Woodpecker book inside the Wondy 25 cover. She points it out to the sale people and they're just as perplexed as she is. They did go through all the comics and check things out, so they're trying to figure out who else had already been through the comics or bought something. Seems like someone swapped one of the beat-up books interiors and took the Wondy, but left the cover so they wouldn't notice it as missing. As a consolation, they knocked $5 off a Wonder Woman 106 that she grabbed for me. Nothing special but 1959 is still old. She isn't a comic person but happy to have a comic story now.

Agreed. I don't think anyone uses press screen on purpose. Unless they're just unaware of how it works.

I sent a book out to get signed at a convention and graded. It came back as a 4.0, with these notes:
spine stress, bends, & creases front & back cover some breaks color; moisture waves & small stains front & back cover; general wear front & back cover
Does anyone think pressing might improve the grade? And would I need to do anything on the submission other than pressing and grading to keep the witnessed signature yellow label?

I've heard about it from several people I know, but this is the first time I've seen a pic of it. I'm not sure what the advantage is? maybe it's just the obvious, no pit needed, no removing the oil pan plug, no laying on the grownd or raising the car. I guess those are good enough reasons, but they are guesses.
