Comic Press Screening Questions18744

Collector ratwoodster private msg quote post Address this user
Hello All,

I am about to submit my first batch of comics for grading, and I had a couple of questions (I apologize in advance of these had been already answered somewhere, I looked through older threads but they were several years old so I don't know if the information is accurate anymore).

If I submit my books for press screening, when does the screening actually occur? Is it when the books are received by CBCS, or when they are actually ready to be pressed? Just curious if they will sit in the queue for several months before getting screened for pressing.

If the books are screened for pressing, do they just automatically move into the pressing queue, or do you approve them to be pressed? I read some (albeit older) comments about people being contacted about the pressings screened for approval before the did them, so I wasn't sure if it was an automatic thing or not.

If some books get pressed and some don't, do they hold the books that move on to grading and encapsulation, or will they ship the books that are ready first, then the pressed books separately when they are completed?

Thanks.

If the viagra is working you should be well over a 9.8. xkonk private msg quote post Address this user
@ratwoodster welcome to the forum!

Press screening happens when they would come up for pressing. So you basically wait the whole pressing TAT either way. The pressers decide if they think a press would improve the grade, and if so they press it. If not, or if the book can't be pressed for some reason (like it's fragile), then they don't press it. They shouldn't contact you either way unless there's something odd (at least, they've never contacted me). Then your order moves on through the grading TAT.

Screening happens right before your books are pressed. The ones that pass get pressed, the ones that fail are not pressed. All books get sent to the grading room together, the order isn't split up.

As for turnaround in pressing, for slow tier books submitted today, it will be around 18-20 weeks. We have been ramping up production with more equipment and employees. A new phase of that is about to kick in which will make a significant increase in speed. Speed increases are also coming in the grading room, though I don't know their specifics and time-frame.

Also, I know they're doing some work to customer service and are dedicated to making that a delightful experience again. Fixing CS has a huge spotlight on it right now. It will happen.

I'd like to say I still turned out alright, but that would be a lie. flanders private msg quote post Address this user
@SteveRicketts I appreciate the update. It would be nice if the turnaround times were updated on the site so I wouldn't look like such an idiot . At least my post was moderated.

@flanders Our management team is going over numbers and analyzing data so they can be accurate when they announce the TATs. They're also using this analysis time to allow us to get those old orders shipped because there is concern over making this bold announcement when we have customers who still have orders in-house that are a year old. I know they don't want to make an announcement and it be inaccurate. I understand that.

I don't know where the other departments are, but I'm pretty confident in Pressing. I'll wait until an official announcement has been made before I mention it again. 🤐

@SteveRicketts thanks again for taking the time out of your day off to provide an update and clarification on the pressing process.

Thank you everyone for the responses! Glad to hear pressing is ramping up @SteveRicketts. I had figured that might be the case, since it wouldn't be good for CBCS's business for it to always be so far out compared to CGC's TAT at the moment. Since I am not in a rush to get my books back, it wasn't a big concern to me as much.
