This commands prices so high that you might even say "damn - i'll stick with a 9.8"...

Take spider-man #1 "Green torment" signed by McFarlane and Stan Lee. IVe seen them at 9.0 sell for about $400, 9.6 at $900, 9.8's between $1850 and $2k, so if there's a 10 grade, its going to get upwards of $3k. (imo).

Unless money was no object for me, id stick with the 9.8 and say the $1,000 ish to buy something else.

If you scroll through MCS or ebay, you can see how grade effects prices.

This 100%.

The good news is folks will throw away their money and they will continue to hand them out 0.5% - 1.0% of the time. And the Royal Flush brings us right back to the one-armed bandit.

@power_struggle55 Why do you think the only way to get a 10.0 is if the publisher gives the books to CBCS immediately after printing?

I know, when I was at CBCS, we really looked over every 9.9 or 10 we were giving a book. Other senior graders would also look over the book as well to make sure no defect was missed.

It was never a "manufactured" grade at CBCS. Many smaller submitters have got a 9.9 and 10, it's not given out because someone is a regular submitter or a very large submitter, contrary to stories out in our hobby and on social media.

Just my two cents and experience while grading.

Have I told you about the time I dropped off 3,000 comics at SDCC? Scifinator private msg quote post Address this user
@sly - Unicorns do exist. I have sent in about 4,000 comics to CBCS. To day, I have Qnt 1 10.0 and Qnt 6 9.9.

-I am the original owner on each.
-They were sent in primarily for the purposes of protective encasement and accurate 3rd party certification.
-Whether or not I would see any 9.9's or 10.0's back had no baring whatsoever on my decision to send in)

As to your question regarding 9.9 and 10.0s of Canadian Variants, I believe the only way to find out is to check the "Population Report" on the main page and look up the specific issues that you may be interested in.

@sborock thanks for replying. Many collectors were always under the impression that the bigger fish usually get the 9.9's and 10's. Glad you cleared the air on this issue.

Any chance you know how to get the stats on how many 9.9's and 10's exist for Canadian Price Variants specifically? Or is it like everyone says, I need to check the CBCS census one issue at a time?

I don’t think this book should’ve been a 9.9, but what do I know, I am not a paid professional grader.

1. I see white on bottom left corner.
2. There appears to be a blemish/super tiny spine tic near the "And" in the "And Greatest Canadian ...."
3. Top Right corner appears to be pushed inward.

If the grading companies want us to believe 9.9 is a valid grade (which I absolutely do not), do a little better than this to convince me.

Those are the same things I was seeing. Need to get a closer look to confirm, though.

And that's a first generation Universal label. So that was graded like 20-ish years ago, right? Seems like most collectors feel like things were graded more harshly back then. Maybe not in this case.

Independent publishers are using very high quality materials to print. Rad dog books are really nice. Still ill has exceptional quality. Coffin depends on the edition version, but have some very nice comics.

I have 2 Rad Dog comics I submitted that came back 9.9s. I looked very close at what they had at the booth and grabbed the sharpest version I could find. Worked out. My 10.0 book still makes no sense to me.

I don’t think it can be judged from a photo of that quality. I compared against a CBCS 9.8 (photos only) and this 9.9 LOOKS like a nicer copy to my eyes. But extremely difficult to judge from a photo like this.

Edit: CBCS 9.8 copy

That sketch cover is stunning. Beautiful piece of art.

As for the naughty comics... I can tell by the cover on the first one that it's definitely 'adult' in nature. The second one hides it better.

I may be able to spot that kinda thing easier because I'm the type that's supposed to be automatically offended and horrified by the naughty stuff. The reality is that as long as everyone's consenting and nothing depicted is actually horrific (NO. Young. Kids), then it's just harmless fun.

thats even rarer. I can get newer issues getting the elusive 9.9. but a comic thats 35 years old. even with pressing the comic would have to be near mint
