CBCS Only Slabs You Just Got Back #217617

I didn't realize the Whitman is considered a reprint. Otherwise pretty happy with this press and grade submission.

LOVE this book!

Apparently, it’s the only first print on the CBCS census at the moment.

I have 3 more Ricou Browning signed copies I still need to send in, but only one is a 1st print & I doubt any of them will grade this high.

very cool!!! how many copies do you have of this book?

Not sure. I traded a 7.5 second print & sold a 7.5 first print recently.

One is about to ship back from grading soon.

I think that will be 4 slabbed copies and 4 raw copies. I’ve sold a couple others in the past once I upgraded.

They're really nice. IMHO, the best on the market. They look great, are super-sturdy, and very few Newton rings.

This was a CGC 6.5 Blue Lable.
Had it taken out of the slab, pressed, signature Verified, and re-"Graded.

It went from a 6.5 to a 6.0 with a check.

I am OK with that because of the Verification.

Cgc graders notes are almost always a miss.
That marville 5 book that looked better than an 8.0 was sent to a presser and he stated that the sides of the book were split. No notes or comments were given on that fact. I almost had book cracked out and resubmitted but the presser looked before leaping....

Yeah, unless a book is mid-grade or lower you rarely get notes from CGC. Very frustrating. Their presser is clearly not the best, either, and they don't even have press pre-screen so that you have a chance at getting books that could be damaged by pressing weeded out.

Considering that was a blue 6.5, not green, switching to a 6 with a verified sig seems like quite a drop.

That surprises me. A 6.5 should have graders notes. I know that from 8.0 above it's pretty much a crap shoot whether they'll provide them or not, but below that they should have them.

I agree. I’ve heard the excuse: “at that grade, you should be able to tell by looking at it”.

Which is ridiculous. We’re getting books graded by a company’s standards, not our own. I want to know why THEY graded it this way. The least they can do is tell us.

@Byrdibyrd

They do have pre-screen but it has to be certain circumstance. Not just ordinary books. For example, I am removing some restoration on a book and it requires a press screen to see if they can remove the restoration and if the book will benefit from press.

Here was results.

Amen. To. That.

Everytime I get a book back from them with a grade below 9.4 I would like to see grader's notes. That would be a huge clue as to whether I would want to crack a pricey book out and get it pressed, or if it would be a waste of my time and money.

Cgc seems to operate in tbe premise that if we are vague and imply presseable defects we can get more money.

I have a hulk 181 9.6 they pressed and the notes suggest that it can be pressed. Yet CCS did the pressing

I have plenty of books with graders notes like that. 'Light bends' on books that I know I had pressed, for example. I know that some bends, however light, are just not going to come out, but what I'm seeing is ridiculous.

Got some goodies back on Thursday. It was an odd order in that a) I used grade screen with raw grade back-up, which I don't think a lot of people do, and b) I'm pretty sure I got it too early. The order is from February and had fast pressing (before the express tiers were implemented) but regular grading. I got an update that it was into grading in August, and six months seemed about right for half-time pressing, but then there's no way I should get through grading in a month. Crazy.

Anyway, here's one of the raw grades. Most of this order was stuff from my X-Men run.

Here's a pair for the guys in the oopsie thread https://forum.cbcscomics.com/topic/18438/page/1/anyone-see-this-oopsie-from-cbcs/

A mistake I made - didn't look for a MVS. There was a different thread about what grade you can get with one missing, and apparently the answer is 'as high as 3.5'. https://forum.cbcscomics.com/topic/18427/page/1/missing-mvs-stamp/

A few regular books.

Then a few non-X-books, with the two winners of the order.

@Belarak I appreciate you sharing. Your photo actually makes me wonder. On my virgin cover it is called “Black Flag” comics exclusive but yours is KRS just like the trade one. I wonder if I should check mine for an extra cover? Maybe they removed it for me?

Minimal Black Flag

Weird :-)

Does your Minimal have Black Flag on the label?
