Suggestions to help improve Turnaround Times - Wrong Answers Only!17121

COLLECTOR dielinfinite private msg quote post Address this user
So for those unaware, CBCS has recently updated their turnaround times again putting pressed books in the ream of 2 years turn-around-time if not expedited. This is INSANE and I’m sure CBCS is working hard to figure out some kind of solution.

I thought we could all help CBCS by coming up with all the wrong solutions (the crazier the better!) so they don’t spend any time thinking about those and instead focus on good solutions!

This is meant to be a bit of fun while we laugh at the insanity of 2-year+ turnaround times that are more likely to grow before they get any better.

1) Grade ranges: CBCS members like to point to CBCS’ stricter grading as a positive. I agree but instead of CBCS easing restrictions so books grade higher, maybe they can speed up grading by assigning a book a grade range like “3.0-5.5” and “9.0-9.8”. These grades aren’t “wrong” like giving a book a higher grade but when buying a book with a grade range you will have the confidence of know it’s between a 0.1 and a 10!

2) How to Grade Comics The CBCS Way!: CBCS should release a book with all their grading secrets then send job offers to everyone that bought the book! BOOM! More perfectly trained grading staff!

3) CBCS Grade at home kit! CBCS should sell a kit that includes an empty slab, a label and number stickers so you can grade and slab your own books at home. Preferably after you’ve bought their book (see above) but not required

Instead of using a t-shirt press that can only fit one comic, switch to giant industrial-sized hydraulic presses. You should be able to flatten out around 20 books at a time!

Outsource pressing to the local water-park. Where people take breaks in lounge chairs that allow them to "wet sit" on comics... Boom...done.

Give all the CBCS house elves shoes, or socks or a shirt ... once they're free elves they are more likely to work faster given their newfound free will ... Sure there may be some of them that quit but its more likely they'll continue doing what they're good at.

Here’s one better! Continuous pressing! Cut pressing time down to mere moments!

Build a time machine portal. Go to the CBCS of the near future when the comic is graded and slabbed....bring it to the present to mail out

actually its not completely a bad idea. if you pre screened it or an expert saw it and was almost 100% sure on grade.....you can request a slab, they print out the label with a mention (they didnt grade it or whatever). save you time....though someone could be a worst conditioned copy in it.

CBCS is a grading company at its core.
Pressing is a service they provide in addition to their core product (grading)

All that said, contracting out work with a distinguished, top level pressing company could be investigated. Their fees are not altogether much different than CBCS's.

At least start chipping away at something that is not even one's core business product.

@Nuffsaid111 That’s actually what they used to do but ended the practice when they started their own pressing service. At this point, I’m not even sure how much that would help since even outside pressers are swamped to an insane degree

im a patient man (most of the time), i submitted my Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #9 in early nov knowing full well I wont see it for quite a while.

Ill be submitting 3 or 4 in june...I know its unlikely I wont see my first submission by then...but as long as its done eventually...they can take all the time they need. if i wanted it right away wouldve paid for the rushed process

I'm assuming you're not joking since I see suggestions like this, for both companies, pretty often. If you are, then let me just apply this to those who make similar comments.
My first thought is always about the huge number of people waiting to submit, finally being able to do so, and setting the TATs back another year again. Unless I'm missing something, this doesn't seem like a viable solution.

If I am missing something, I'd be curious..

@HeinzDad

Sometimes you have to laugh at absurdity of life. If you take it too seriously you run the risk of getting depressed. Fir example, every time I turn on the news, I have feelings of dread and sorrow. Having comics in my life gives me some peace even if I know it's gonna be awhile before I see my stuff again.
