Received an email from customer service this morning and thought it could be useful to some.

Please, take all info with a grain of salt as we don't know how accurate it, truly, is considering order size / # and tier choice. Not to mention it contradicts some of the information we have already received.

Update:

21-16F7F4E - Pressing - (End of April Order) - press/grade (No Fast Pass)

Got the "your order is in grading" email. It's a regular-speed expanded/modern order with pressing from the end of April.

While I have only submitted books a few times in the past, with over half a dozen open orders currently at CBCS, the only emails I have received is when books have been received and then when the books have entered the pressing queue for those in need of pressing. Beyond that, no emails ever from that point including when they have shipped which I feel is one of the more important notices for a customer. As a back-up I have FedEx notifications enabled on my phone so when I see a text come through with an order on it's way from Texas, chances are it's books back to me, but I do wish an email could be generated when the books ship out.

Just an update on where we are in pressing.
Slow tier orders from May are all pressed and in the grading queue. June orders are in progress with many orders completed and moved to grading. We do have quite a bit left to go for June orders.

Fast Pass orders from August are mostly pressed, though there are a few lingering. They should be finished in the next week or two.

I'd like to address the future plans for pressing, since I'm sure you all saw the substantial turnaround change on the website. When we moved the office from Florida to Texas it took a while to get the turnaround in control, but we managed to get it down to 8 weeks before our submission volumes went through the roof. Over the last few months we have doubled the volume in pressing with more equipment and employees. Over the next few months we will be doubling our volume yet again with the same formula. This is not something that we can just flip a switch and make happen because people have to be vetted and trained extensively. Your comics are important to us.

The pressing department prides itself in it's craft and works hard to give you superior results. We will speed up, but refuse to do so at the expense of the quality of our work. CBCS Pressing will always do our best to get you the highest possible grade on your comics.

I'll try to be a little more available here, but we're busy, guys. We're busy.

@Blair1999 I reached out to them some time ago via the customer service email. Once I received a response, decided to share it. I doubt anyone is getting regular updates via the dashboard, or email, at the moment.

Wondering if being free membership vs paid membership matters with updates... Most of the people who are telling people they get regular updates have a paid membership. (I really don't know the answer, I'm just spitballing here.) Just sayin, I could less about regular updates as long as I get my books back quick and safe. The only update I really care about is the received status after I mail in a submission. After I get that update I know my books are in safe hands...

@SteveRicketts why not implement a simple barcode tracking on each comic that gets scanned when it reaches the next location in the process and automatically updates the customer on the progress. Even a new grading company like HGA for sports cards has this feature. Doesn't take much to put that in place and it would eliminate all the questions and concerns.

They may have that already in place internally, but you don't want to expose your internal network to the outside world. Any points of entry could cause massive issues.

Imagine if cbcs was infected with ransomware. What would happen to all those comics and such?

@2021NAI - As @Bronte mentions, that is their internal system which we cannot see nor have access to. And, if we did see it, as I have referenced about this several times, hackers and even competitors would have a very vested interest in exploiting CBCS user vulnerability for nefarious purposes. It could absolutely crush CBCS if they didn't have the internal system and our dashboard or email notification systems separated.

Other than the rarity that a customer is moving, we just don't need to really know exactly where are comics are in the process.

This is correct. They use barcodes on comic bags to track the comics and to ensure the graders (or pressers) do not know whose book they are working on. This is all on an internal network separate from the public networks.

@Scifinator Why couldn't they update the dashboard with this so there is no way to get into the internal system? If it can not be hacked now it would not change anything. Also if things came even close to TAT's this wouldn't be a problem. I know they are busy but Customer Service brings customers back.

@2021NAI - As @Jesse_O said, "They use barcodes on comic bags to track the comics and to ensure the graders (or pressers) do not know whose book they are working on. This is all on an internal network separate from the public networks."

Bottom line, they are on two separate networks for good reason. Hackers, Ransomeware, etc. What they usually do is have a person update us pretty much immediately via the public network, as to the movement from that only they can see on the internal network. The volume went through the roof last years and that extra and labor intensive step to notify the hundreds or possibly thousands of submitters is being put on the back burner. Again, rightfully so.

It's funny, they're talking about adding magazine-sized books to their grading lineup.

THEY CAN'T KEEP UP WITH THEIR WORKLOAD NOW!!

How about hiring & training NEW WORKERS so that we can get our books back someday.

In a perfect world, companies would care about actual customer service, this isn't it.
