Here is a thread with good information on scanning slabs Long story short, you are looking for a scanner with a Legal A4 sized bed with CCD scanning technology You can also use an app like Google’s Photoscan |

The Plustek OpticPro A320L works very well and easy to use. It is expensive but gives you a good quality look on any book.![]() |

I'm trying to decide between the Epson Expression 12000XL (maybe the GA) Or the Plustek OpticPro A320L The scanner would be mainly used for animation artwork (cels). But I would like to be able to scan some slabs. I do need the CCD. I have read that both units have negatives as far as their software. The cels I usually scan at 72 dpi, I don't have any experience with what I would scan the slabs. Is it possible to get others opinions/experiences they have with these two scanners? Both are fairly expensive and I would like to make the most informed decision. Thank you.![]() |

@mattness Honestly, both of those machines are overkill for the use you are describing. Printing DPI is usually about 300dpi so I scan at double that for archive purposes then reduce to 25% (see above) for sharing online, etc. |

@dielinfinite My old epson was a ccd perfection 1240. I loved it. After thousands of scans it finally died. I "upgraded to an A3 Mustek cid for my slabs, oversized animation and comic art but it doesn't work very well. I don't want to have to deal with colors and contrasts after the initial scans. Which scanner is the ASM 361 scanned with?

That was done on an HP Scanjet 8200 with the VueScan software (since there aren’t official drivers for Windows 10). Both the scanner and the software combined were less than $100. You only have to adjust the settings once and I think you may be able to save multiple scanning profiles (think separate settings for your cels and slabs)
