I hear their hourly rate is outrageous! sportshort private msg quote post Address this user
I am looking at purchasing a comic through ebay that would be coming from Vancouver, BC, Canada. My question is, should I buy it? Are shipments from Canada crossing the border easily and arriving at a reasonable time? obviously it's not easy to forget the CBCS Canada fiasco, books stuck in Canada and employee stuck in the US, needless to say that situation makes me a little nervous. What do my Canadian fellow collectors opine?

I have made purchases from MyComicShop, Quality Comix and Dale Roberts comics store during the pandemic. The shipping took longer but they all got here. While the boarder is closed to people, goods are getting through. I've also made many non comic related purchases through Amazon from the US that has made it to my mailbox.

For what it's worth, I've bought multiple books from ebay canada under covid. Books do take a bit longer and I had one in I think Jamaica New York for quite a few days. (I believe that is the actual border)

However, the wait times are not crazy long. If the book is something you want, and price is right I see no reason to not get it.

Well then, the fact that both of you have similar experiences and all of the positive and most importantly you both use Batman for your avatar (not suspicious at all) lead me to believe that it's a safe bet to purchase this book even if there is a little longer than usual wait. Thank you both, I appreciate it.

I think CBCS delay is unique to themselves. You should be fine. If not, blame it on the other guy..... =)

But seriously, the Canadians seem to have their stuff in order. It's the USA that you have to worry about.

(No. I'm not a hater of my own country. I just feel we arent doing too well in this fight)

Edit

Btw dont forget to post the new addition....

Same here - still buying books from multiple sources in the US and they do take a bit longer but well within the ebay however many days to file complaint so no worries there.

Actually have a book en route right now - estimate was Aug 4 to 15 but it is currently stuck in Chicago..so probably the 15th then!

Go ahead, buy it. One comic crossing the border for me took a few extra days.

Yes, I've bought from Canada and shipped to Canada in the last couple months. Expect approximately 30 days. The comic I bought from Mexico was a different story. I think it was at least 60 days.

I have something coming from Canada (not through eBay) that went out last Friday and is estimated to be in my hands this Friday. I guess we'll see if that's true.

On eBay I just had an order finish in the other direction. I shipped something to Australia via the eBay international shipping program. It took about 3.5 weeks.

@xkonk still not bad, I just don’t want to come on the forms with a horror story so we’ll see. Thanks

Receiving from Canada has taken me about two weeks from the time it is shipped. I haven't sent anything there in a while though. UK and Australia have been about 2-3 weeks to the US.

@Studley_Dudley I hope a couple of weeks but since I’m in Southern California it’s quite the distance. I would be happy with under a month.

It looks great, but is it cropped because it is PGX? I'm just curious as to what grade is....(I'm not good at guessing)

you're the winner! that's why it's cropped. it's a 5.5. I think it looks really nice even for a 5.5.

Honestly I thought it was a lot higher than that. But again, I'm not a grader. Gratz. Hopefully a press and grade yields favorable results...

@Bronte, That's the way it looked to me too. My problem is getting a cleaner/presser nearby. I have a bunch of leads but they don't pan out. but i will sent it in for re-holder or grade after a press. assuming i can find a presser. I am told by Batman66 that he is using a nearby presser, i am just waiting to see the results once he gets his books back.

If you arent in a hurry, I would say just send to CGC or fast press CBCS. Personally, I dont like the idea of a book traveling to multiple destinations with no idea how each landing will occur. Saving a couple of bucks seems pointless after shipping and time is factored in...

I just sent some books to CBCS fast press, I'm hoping for the best.(yes, I know it's still going to be awhile, but I check every day like a fool) In regards to CGC, I just had 6 books cracked, pressed and graded. All 6 came back higher. (Amazing Spider-man 194 qty 6 )

I'd say both companies are capable, just a matter of time and individual preference.

Edit

I chose CBCS this round because of signature authentication.

I fully understand why you sent them to these known companies but i don't have the patience nor the confidence/patience to wait for 6 mos to a year to get my books back, I would rather send them to someone local with references and an assurance of getting them back within a month. I will probably send some to CBCS once they have the TATS under control and their non-existent customer service in order. I would love to get several books cleaned and pressed by CBCS even ones i've had graded by them.
