I was a little disappointed that he didn’t attend RI Comic Con this year, because I was hoping to get this book signed by him.

@sportshort - Thanks. It's an awesome cover and it presents well, but it's probably closer to mid-grade than high grade in my opinion (which makes it a great choice for an autograph).

Very belated, but here are my triplets. I wasn't aiming for them all to be FN but I guess it is somewhat appropriate.

Hey folks, i don't know enough about AW's, can they witness for you? by that I mean, can they witness a signature for you even though you are not an AW? or is it strictly for the AW's benefit (meaning they can only witness for themselves)? I'm asking here because I would like CBCS to get my business instead of CGC. CGC will be at California Comic Convention in Orange CA in January where Jim Steranko will be,so I feel I have not choice but to use CGC. Any thoughts?

What is the cost for an Authorized Witness? I was figuring I might just pay CBCS the $25 for post-sig verification. I know it's a little more risky but Maybe take a picture of Steranko with the books in case I needed some backup evidence. Don't know what the cost difference is though.

@EbaySeller

that's what i'm trying to figure out. Unfortunately, Pics don't help to get you a verified grade, they use their software only (from what i've heard). Pics should serve as proof to friends, family & customers if the signature is unverified though. Can someone with intimate CBCS knowledge shed some light on our questions? I would love an AW to be present when Steranko signs (assuming it's not a no-no since CGC is a vendor at the show.

You've got three options:

Go the red label route like @EbaySeller said. Although @sportshort is correct that photos or COAs are not part of the process. All they do is look at the signature.

Find an AW at the con, whether it's at a CBCS booth (if they're there) or some other person. The AW will go with you to the artist and witness the signature, then take you back to their table/booth and fill out a submission form. Unfortunately, CBCS refuses to print a list of their AWs so all you can do is post on the forums or maybe Facebook to see who will be at any given con. CBCS will witness for free but I think AWs are free to charge what they want.

Request to become your own witness for a con. Check out this thread for the application https://forum.cbcscomics.com/topic/8388/page/1/new-personal-aw-application-process/ , and also read the other AW threads that are pinned at the top of the forum. You need to do it in advance so that CBCS can do whatever they do to decide about your application. Then just follow all the rules so you don't get anything disqualified.

Is there anyone who is authorized to be an AW going to be at the California Comic Convention in Orange CA?

@sportshort It could help to start a thread. Draw a little more attention to the con itself and maybe someone else going will know of an AW.

@xkonk, I asked this question earlier and I am not sure of the answer. Can an AW witness for other's or just themselves? are there different levels of AW's?

I think the terminology might be a little loose. AWs can witness for themselves, like if you apply and CBCS approves it. Facilitators are allowed to witness for other people and send submissions to CBCS on their behalf. Technically the first type is a 'personal use AW' and the second is a 'facilitator AW', but you'll often see people just ask if an AW is going to be at a convention. They mean a facilitator.

That makes sense. do you think that if a facilitator were available that the folks having the con would throw a fit? after all CGC is a paying vendor. never having used an AW or Facilitator don't know how they might be received in this type of environment. Of course they don't wear special shirts with Facilitator emblazoned on them (someone might mistake them for Facilitator Man, but that's a completely different topic).

No, I don't think they care. I requested to be my own AW at a con earlier this year because it was CGC exclusive and no one at the con cared. I think even CGC would understand that if you're willing to go through whatever process to get your books done specifically by CBCS, you probably aren't going to use the CGC booth that's right there.

Thought I’d share this I got a while back.

The original one Indi had a cigarette in his mouth and they removed it from this. I have that poster somewhere that Jim also signed.
