What is your best kept secret spec book or idea...Bronze silver, or gold?10374

that's very true and one of the reasons I detest price guides that use predictive methods. …..anyone remember Comics Values Monthly? they would pump the new hot books up so hard and fast you had to know they were sitting on a carton of copies. Seen a lot of books get pushed hard by unfounded rumors...or worse, take the thing going on with the new mutants movie...ugh

Anyone here think the 2nd appearance of Deadpool should be X-Force #1, and not #2? He isn't in the Story, but does appear in some kind of Character File, and that IS part of the issue. It isn't an ad, it takes up space where content would be.
I've read discussions on this at CGC, so it isn't my secret secret.
And I've got so many of those stupid things lol Purchased right before I left the hobby for a while.
Not a coincidence.

I get the impression dr strange is going to get a kick in the pants on this movie. They are supposed to bring in scarlet witch and Loki and the ancient one. the villain is nightmare.

Nightmare 1st appearance is the same as dr strange in this book.

funny

I thought the thread was about undervalued comics. If it is about comic values and moivies then I didn't understand. Either way, Swamp Thing 37 is undervalued.

Ha! I remember that thing. In the comic store I worked for we called it Comics Inflated Monthly. The owner would use Overstreet to buy comics and CVM to sell them.

It's a niche market, imo. I love the pence copies because they're different while still being first prints, plus they're still uncommon on this side of the pond. High grade pence copies can command a premium but it has to be an established key. I buy high grade pence copies whenever I can. I have my eye on a Strange Tales 110 pence copy from a UK seller, so I'm hoping to work something out on that in the future. Unfortunately, I don't think the overall scarcity of the books will command more than cents copies until attitudes change.

Pence copies are a fantastic long-term play. I've only got a few, but they are decent. A few ASM in the 100's. A silver or bronze (don't remember) Fantastic Four. My best one is Ms Marvel #1 9.6. I need to get more active on buying these, but there aren't any I'm particularly looking for. I just look for good deals that others have overlooked, or (foolishly) downplayed because they are pence.

I couldn't believe it when the Whitman variants started commanding a premium. We used to HATE those things. And of course the price variants are through the roof, especially Star Wars #1. So pence will be the next big thing, especially high grade keys. The problem is there are just so damn MANY of them. Not any individual issue ... those will always be rare, because pence are rare. But in total, there are tons. (Or should I say tonnes?)

Still .. at some point there will be a sea change, when enough folks realize they are not second prints, and they are rare, and hard to get in high grade. It's starting to happen with some keys, I think, and will continue across most pence copies, especially silver and bronze.

@Towmater, I took @Bronte's comment to mean that Swamp Thing 37 could pick up if Constantine appears in a movie. I was only pointing out that he's already been in a movie.

This is a super bold and out there prediction, but I'm going to say that when the next X-Men comes out, it'll be based on Morrisons run, and those books will jump up.

If this happens, I'll look like a genius...

Mine is more of a guilty pleasure and wishful thinking... wishing and hoping a movie is made and the franchise Explodes
when I was a doe eyed baby face . I read a series called Strikeforce Morituri "We who are about to die"

Strikeforce Morituri were a superhuman team opposing alien invaders in the not-so distant future. Undergoing the "Morituri Process", each member were given superpowers but at the cost of them only having at most a year to live. and most spontaneously com-busted a lot sooner then that . For whatever reason it resonated with me and to this day I have retained copies to read over and over never truly thinking anything will come of it .

I feel ya. From time to time I think about the 2-3 full sets I have boxed away in my garage along with "The Nam". Both were good reading if I remember.

For speculation I have two categories:

Books that I buy or have bought at current prices:
Marvel Super special 16 true first Boba Fett.
Ultimate Fallout 4
New Avengers 11 and 27 ( I really believe Ronin has potential).
Giant size FF4 First Multiple Man
HOM 179 first Bernie Wrightson
HOM 175 first Cain

Books I am not buying but am reluctant to sell at current prices:
Captain America 117
Daredevil 131
Shazam 28
Hulk 180...has historically sold at 10% of 181 value, I think it could move to 20%-25%.
Iron Fist 14
Iron Man with first Rhodey or War Machine
Action Comics 276 several Legion firsts

Books I probably should be picking up super cheap:
First Bishop
First Echo
First Blink

we called it comics Vascular monthly...the LCS here did the same thing, buying by Overstreet, selling by CVM.....another local shop now out of business would use an old overstreet wrapped inside a new cover...to purchase, then go by CVM to sell.Ugh

The thread is about comics you feel are good specs....no matter why, and regardless what anyone else thinks or says. Its all opinions and different peoples ideas, and everyone is free to say what they think...share what you think and no worries.

I have one Whitman book. Batman #307 I believe. The shop down the street from me has a bunch of DC Whitman books. Grade range varies, and he definitely commands a premium for some. I guess some Whitmans are less common than others. Not exactly sure how they work out.

There are a bunch of pence copies on so many titles. It's not like the 30, 35 cent price variants. Still, a low print run, plus the scant amount of surviving higher grade copies can make them a more a in-demand commodity. We're seeing it with Canadian price variants from the BA now, and high grade Australian price variants of keys can command a premium. If I can find them, I buy them.

Unforunately, the best material from the DD comics was wasted in the DD and Elektra movies.

I expect female superheroes (and villains)to continue to take off, as they look so much better in costumes, check out any con for confirmation.
So She Hulk 1 will continue to rise, Enchantress, Red Sonja, Power Girl, Shi, Huntress to name a few possibilities
