Comic Base and Bar Code Scanner9933

Collector VaComicsGuy private msg quote post Address this user
Anyone use Comic Base and a Bar code scanner.
I just started using the free version (to see if I wanted to upgrade to a paid version).

Right now, I am having a problem with about 20% of the books I scan. Scanning the bar code results in either (1) the right title but wrong issue or (2) wrong title and issue.

Does anyone know if there is a fix to this or know of a program that works properly with a bar code scanner?

Thanks.

Old books vs new books? There is usually a setting for one or the other unless it’s supposed to be “smart” and figure that out for itself.

@cyrano0521
According to the instructions, the scanner is supposed to figure it out.
The errors don't seem to be confined to a particular age or type of book.

I use CLZ and see this a fair amount in older and newsstand books - multiple results found for one barcode - but I’ve never run into issues with “Modern” books

@KCBatmanFan
I only started with Comic Base because they had a free version I could play around with to see if I liked it.
Do you like CLZ or do you get a lot of errors with the scanner? I'd estimate 60% of my collection is newsstand so I'd like to avoid a system that has problems with those.

I've been happy with CLZ. I scanned in all 13,000 of my books and didn't run into too many issues. CLZ allows you to scan 100 books for free - so you can test out and see if it's any better for you. They just added the option to subscribe for values from GoCollect, but I'm sticking with my grandfathered free version for now.

@VaComicsGuy If you’re interested in CLZ, I’d recommend giving this thread a read as the desktop software has changed significantly in the past few months.

For new users the application now requires a monthly subscription for several features, including database access and automatic GoCollect values. If you don’t have an active subscription, I think you can still add books but you’ll have to do it all manually as opposed to downloading the information from their database.

Additionally, CLZ doesn’t really have native support for Newsstand/Direct Editions but you can create custom fields to keep track of that

Let me know if you have any other CLZ questions, I’ll be happy to help

I have ComicBase and have had it since version 7. I have a current subscription. I do NOT recommend that you get it. Last 2 versions I have had problems with both of my Databases and it is a headache. Use CLZ better or some other program.

@SpiderTim A few people have told me they aren't happy with ComicBase so I am probably going to pass on that.
I'm taking @dielinfinite's advice and looking at CLZ but open to any suggestions.

My girlfriend bought me a cheap, but pretty decent bar code scanner for my birthday. I had told her I wanted one. I can make bar code labels with my Brother QL-500 label printer.

Firefox can turn a web page into a QR code. I can print those on labels too so they can link a comic to a web page or price guide listing on a phone.

I don't use Comicbase, but I may start making my own labels for my comics so I can scan them into a database quickly.
