Potential High Value Comics?9908

Collector NONO private msg quote post Address this user
As part of my father’s golden age collection, from his childhood, it appears he has 3 potential high value books.

Action Comics #20
Action Comics #23
Wonder Comics #1

They are not in great shape but looks like even low grades have decent value. Don’t want to handle these as they are, just our luck, in the worst condition of all his books.

Any advice on how to best deal with them? Grade them? Press? (Too risky?) Restore? (I know nothing about restoration). Direct sale or auction house?

Thanks in advance. I received some great advice in my first posting, having this forum is a great resource for a noob.

I would pick something out (not necessarily those) to grade and keep as a momento of your old man.

I would think grading would be the best way to maximize value. (Generally graded are more valuable than raw.)

While I have no idea if they should or shouldn't be pressed, there is a press screening. I would imagine they would determine if the books are capable / suitable for pressing.

I think they would make a decision that is best for you and your books.

Good luck

By the way, the graded encapsulates the book and may help preserve the books from further deterioration.

Action 23 is definitely the most valuable (first Luthor, first mention of Daily Planet). Wonder Comics 1 is a close second value-wise, but will have a smaller market.

Probably not good candidates for pressing, since they're so damaged. But grading and slabbing? Definitely!

Congratulations!

Definitely don't restore them unless you plan to keep them for yourself. Restoration kills the value. Otherwise I agree that pressing probably won't do anything (if they can be pressed) but have them graded if you want to 'lock in' what the condition and value are.

That is seriously cool. All my old man ever gave me was a reputation.

That's not true but I like the way it sounds.

Not worth pressing. Could also damage the book if pressed incorrectly.
