@Tyler If that is the only book on the order then it is hard to tell because all press-screen orders will have the press screen fee applied but have the pressing costs as $0 when the invoice is created.

Once the books are screened and some books pass the invoice will be updated to include the pressing fees. If you had just one book and it failed the press screen then the invoice wouldn't see much of a change.

I think you'll know if they have been screened when they actually bill your payment method as I think that is done after screening is complete so they have an idea of the full cost of the invoice.

This was true in the past, but for a while now I haven't been billed for pressing (if screened) until the order was graded and complete.

I have 14 ( nice) books on this order. I think they are all either press screen or press. Some are listed with a press charge ( the ones i asked to be pressed?) and some are listed as above...with a zero balance as of yet.

Good afternoon all. New to CBCS and submitted my first order for the Dallas FanExpo a few weeks back. Picked up the 27 books at the con but since then I have noticed a few issues. One of them is mislabeled as a specific variant when it is actually a Cover A, and none of the QR codes work for the notes. They all come back as 'Invalid Comic'. I've reached out to the RSM several times and emailed customer support, but curious if any of you have had similar issues and if so what's the best way to resolve?

COLLECTOR dielinfinite private msg quote post Address this user
Does the variant name on the label not accurately describe the book? I understand it is the Cover A in cases where there are multiple standard covers they might still individually identify them.

If the label is in fact inaccurate, I would email customer service to report it. They should fix it free of charge but I wouldn’t take them up on it until the flood of submissions die down and you can get it back in a reasonable amount of time.

As for the second issue, check on your dashboard and see if the order has been marked as completed. When the books leave the facility they basically have to set an option that publishes the grader’s notes but in some cases that doesn’t happen. It is usually an easy fix. Either way, mention it in the same email when you report the label and ask them to publish the grader’s notes.

Be aware, Customer Service has been glacially slow at responding to emails but it is good to have a trail showing you reported the issues promptly. I recommend waiting a couple of weeks, if they don’t respond then forward them the old message again. Rinse and repeat until they respond

Good info, thank you!
The label is listed as a Bird City Exclusive, and it's definitely just the standard cover.
My dashboard still lists the books status as 'ReadyForPickUp'. I'll take your advice and ask them to mark complete and publish the notes.
Thanks again for the help!

Does grading include encapsulation? I sent in an order that was received on April 6th for pressing and grading. And now since my order has been pressed, I'm wondering if my order is just going to be graded and that's it.

@PhantomStranger271 Yes, grading includes encapsulation unless you selected Raw Grading, in which case the books are sealed i to a mylar bag and boarded.

I have a blank cover comic that I mailed to an artist to do a sketch on. I want to get it graded with the yellow label. How would I go about getting this graded as such?
Post 209 IP   flag post
COLLECTOR dielinfinite private msg quote post Address this user
@BrenoMp You will have to create the submission online as normal. Wait until they have finished the art so you can put an accurate date completed, otherwise it can be a real pain getting it corrected later.

Send them the invoice and have them complete this short form. When they have all that, they should mail the book, the invoice and the completed form in to CBCS directly

@dielinfinite Thanks for the response! Do I have to add the authentic option to the signature while checking out? Can I select original art?
Post 211 IP   flag post
COLLECTOR dielinfinite private msg quote post Address this user
@BrenoMp You have to add Authentic Signature to add the artist’s name and date completed.

You can use the Original Art option IN ADDITION to Authentic Signature if you want. Please know that Original Art is a service tier option. If you select it the book will not receive a numerical grade. Instead it will simply have the word “ART” in that place

@dielinfinite Good to know, thank you! What would you say the pro and cons or getting a sketch either graded with a yellow label or just certified as original art?

Since the price is about the same, I personally prefer to have my books graded. However, some collectors find that a grade, especially a less than perfect one, distracts from the art and so prefer the art label.

I only went with the art label on the book I posted because the artist, without notifying me beforehand, had removed the staples from the book. I don’t usually care for small hits to the grade due to the process of creating the art (waviness from watercolors, ink smearing, etc) but removing the staples seemed like too big of an unnecessary hit to the grade so I went with the Art label

Hello everyone.

I am wondering how many slabs fit into a standard return box? I have a large order (for me) and would like to keep it within 2 boxes if possible.

Thanks in advance for your help.

@Silverado I think someone has said 30, but I'm just going by memory. The largest order I've sent is 29 books and they came back in one box.

@xkonk Perfect. If it was 20ish then I had a problem. At, at least 29, I should be good. Thanks!

I submitted my first two orders, 1 with 4 comics and 1 with 9 comics.
The invoices I have list the correct comics on each of them, however, the list of comics on the website for the 9 comic order is wrong.
It shows that I have Journey Into Mystery 84 on it instead of Iron Man 1. The 4 comic order also has Journey Into Mystery 84, which is correct.
I contacted customer support this morning and they said they would forward the information on the mixup.
Any idea as to when the correction will be updated on my dashboard?
Thanks

CBCS usually does a pass and updates variant names and other biographical data just before the book enters grading so it might get taken care of at that point.

Were these books submitted at a convention? Trying to find out how the issue occurred

Yes, they were. Spa-Con a couple weekends ago. I supplied invoices for both orders at the time I turned them in
I had printed the invoices from the information I had submitted to CBCS before the convention.
Each picture below is a different order.

If I submit this for VSP do I pay one fee for the signature and the sketch on the inside cover or is there a separate fee for each?

Also if I select press screen, would this be the first step in the process before the book is sent to be Verified and would I have the option to have the book sent back without being cracked out of the slab if it doesn't pass the press screen?

Thanks for the help!

COLLECTOR dielinfinite private msg quote post Address this user
@flanders CBCS/Beckett only verify signatures, not sketches. You would verify the signature and if the signature passes the sketch will not affect the grade. So the label would read something like

“Verified signature: Jeff Smith
Sketch on inside front cover”

I believe press screen does try to assess the book while it is still slabbed but I cannot say for certain whether it is standard procedure to do so.

They are removing the slab anyways for regrade so it makes sense to take it out before screening the book for press....

@Bronte but what if I don't want it regraded or sent to vsp if it doesn't pass a press screen? I think I've seen in past posts that press screening can take place while the book is still in the slab.

I believe they state its a best effort then if it remains in the case.

But I am curious, why go through the trouble if you aren't going to VSP the book? Personally I would prefer a yellow label over a green one any day....

Edit

I know that when I did pressing via CFP, he did NOT break open cases on a couple of books because he didn't feel he could improve them. I don't know about CBCS policy though.

That's a good question. But unfortunately it's just one of the many mysteries of being a Flanders that I can't answer. I took a good look after receiving it today and I believe it has potential to get an even higher grade than a 9.4, but there's still a fear that it could drop in grade and I'd prefer to have a qualified 9.4 than a verified CBCS 9.2. Maybe I'll just have to give it more time before deciding if I want to take that gamble.

Don't feel bad, I make decisions that make me wonder about myself. Regardless, nice book and good luck with whatever you decide to do.

@flanders I have a somewhat similar situation with a Black and White Grendel #1. CGC graded it 9.0 but inside is a Matt Wagner signature and doodle. Since I can't see it without cracking, I'm torn over taking the risk of sending it to CBCS for verification. But it could maybe go to 9.4 if the signature were verified.
