CBCS 101: A Newbie's Guide.9896

Yes but the wait to receive the books helps some people cool off and since CBCS doesn’t reimburse return shipping and the prospect of further waiting helps dissuade most of the remainder People will still come on the message boards and complain but will unlikely to be flooding Customer Service with demands |

Someone remind me. Is an * the same as a 'check mark', on the grade? Example: 9.4* Thanks. |

This forum has been very helpful so far, so I'm gonna keep going to the well. How can I find out what these new label colors mean? Got back 5 slabs today. 2 blue, 3 yellow. |

Yellow is authenticated or witnessed signature. Blue is kind of a catch all. You need to read label to see if its universal or if its restored. |

About to pack up my first submission to CBCS, do the books need to be in any certain order? Thanks in advance!
Post 31 IP flag post |
COLLECTOR | dielinfinite private msg quote post Address this user
@jandreu No, the books do not need to be in any specific order. When they are received they will be checked against the books on the invoice to make sure everything is included

The label will specify if they are witnessed signatures (signed in the presence of a CBCS Authorized Witness, +$5 fee) or verified signature (verified as authentic by Beckett, +$25 for first signature). Unsigned books will be blue, the label will indicate noteworthy details like restoration |

One other noob question, if I choose press screen and choose to only grade 9.8 how does that work?
Post 36 IP flag post |
COLLECTOR | dielinfinite private msg quote post Address this user
@jandreu Your books will quickly be reviewed before full grading. Any book that wouldn’t get at least a 9.8 from full grading is not graded. Books that pass the screen move on to full grading You may only be charged a small reject fee for books that don’t pass screening but that is usually only applied on larger orders where a large number of the books fail the grade screen |

I'd like to say I still turned out alright, but that would be a lie. | flanders private msg quote post Address this user
This is all I know about press screening. |

COLLECTOR | dielinfinite private msg quote post Address this user
@jandreu ahh, my mistake. i read that as Grade screen. As @flanders pointed out, Press screening examines a book to see if it will benefit from a press. Grade screen examines the book to see if it meets a certain grade. I'm not 100% sure but I do believe a press screen would happen first and if the book gets pressed then it gets grade screened before grading. You can very well end up paying for pressing and have the book fail grade screen and not get graded. All that said, if you are not aware, pressing currently has a ridiculous backlog and people are waiting something like 10 months to get books back from pressing. They are currently working to get that under control but until they do, I cannot recommend using CBCS' Pressing service |

@jedijohnson you got three yellow books back but none were signed? Do you mind posting some pictures?

I know that CBCS just upgraded to the new cases (which these are) and got red of the red labels (auth sig) for the yellow'ish, which these appear to be. Also, the protective slab [plastic] sleeves that CBCS is using now are thin, flimsy and easily torn. |

@jedijohnson Those are errors. They should all be in blue labels. Send customer service an email informing them of the mistake and include the photos. They will fix them and ship them back to you for free (turnaround time for these kinds of fixes is only like a week). Unfortunately they do not reimburse shipping back to them anymore so they will recommend you include them with your next order along with the details of the fix (I like to include the email with the pertinent information highlighted). You don’t have to wait until your next order but like I said, they won’t cover the costs of shipping the books to them.

I thought I heard that when CBCS got rid of the 'red' for sigs, that they were also eliminating the blue. All were gonna be yellow. Cant find anything on that now though. We will see.

You should get them back separately as they will input it as a separate, free, order. Mistakes happen, unfortunately. I’ve had everything from swapped labels, wrong issue information, and even signed books come back in a blue label. Stick around long enough and it will happen wherever you go.

But lately I'm seeing more and more QA issues with CBCS. On my last submission, I got a Clone Wars #1 graded at 9.8. Great right? Except the label doesn't list a single bit of amplifying information. That's right. No mention of the 1st appearance of Ahsoka Tano. I looked up other CBCS graded CW1 slabs, and they did mention the 1st appearance. Are there no standards set for those who process the graded comic and QA the final product? Like these latest mistakes, it was recommended that I send it back in for correction. No thanks. Not gonna risk a 9.8 CW1 going through the USPS and reslabbing processing again. |
