I'd like to say I still turned out alright, but that would be a lie. flanders private msg quote post Address this user
@Bronte but what if I don't want it regraded or sent to vsp if it doesn't pass a press screen? I think I've seen in past posts that press screening can take place while the book is still in the slab.

I believe they state its a best effort then if it remains in the case.

But I am curious, why go through the trouble if you aren't going to VSP the book? Personally I would prefer a yellow label over a green one any day....

Edit

I know that when I did pressing via CFP, he did NOT break open cases on a couple of books because he didn't feel he could improve them. I don't know about CBCS policy though.

That's a good question. But unfortunately it's just one of the many mysteries of being a Flanders that I can't answer. I took a good look after receiving it today and I believe it has potential to get an even higher grade than a 9.4, but there's still a fear that it could drop in grade and I'd prefer to have a qualified 9.4 than a verified CBCS 9.2. Maybe I'll just have to give it more time before deciding if I want to take that gamble.

@flanders

Don't feel bad, I make decisions that make me wonder about myself. Regardless, nice book and good luck with whatever you decide to do.

@flanders I have a somewhat similar situation with a Black and White Grendel #1. CGC graded it 9.0 but inside is a Matt Wagner signature and doodle. Since I can't see it without cracking, I'm torn over taking the risk of sending it to CBCS for verification. But it could maybe go to 9.4 if the signature were verified.

@EbayMafia I've convinced myself there's a chance it could get a 9.8, but that's likely crazy talk. I'll give it a couple months and see if my opinion changes.

Ok, I just got emails saying 21-357B651-QS and 21-357B651-RP are in the grading room.
Yay,, I think.
Looking at my invoices, my two submittals are
21-357B651 and 21-357C066.
Is this a mistake or do these change at some time or other?
These are my first two submittals and I am going crazy!
I have all my grails in these two submittals. I need some kind of assurance that I am getting the right comics back

@Lloe01 no mistake, QS stands for Quickstream submission and RP stands for Rapid submission. So basically, your submission has multiple level of comics within.

@Lloe01 - sure, no problem. And, welcome to the forum. Just an FYI, while there is two different TAT's (Turn Around Times) listed for Quickstream and Rapid), because your submission was combined on 1 invoice, you should see the longer of the two Estimated TATs. That the most recent estimated TAT (which is available at the top of the homepage, reflects 4 weeks. Now don't panic if it ends up running a little longer, they are super backed up due to the comic sales speculation market and the fact that cgc was also backed up and raised their prices. But, your higher tier still gets you faster service than Modern, Expanded, and Consumer tiers.

You also mentioned a different submission number. If that was one of the lower tiers, again don't panic if they have not updated you. It may take several weeks to even months before they update your dashboard. They would have already checked in internally but due to the backlog, they may not update the external Dashboard which we see.

When did CBCS receive you submission? Also, please let us know when you get the "Shipped" email and we love Mail Call pictures when you get your grails back.

Cheers

Ok, that’s a relief. They were submitted Sep 23.
The second submittal had Consumer, 2-day modern and expanded tiers.

I called customer service a few weeks ago, because somehow both submittals somehow showed the same comic book (journey into mystery 84) and neither listed my Iron Man 1 (1968).

Customer service said they would send this info to cbcs and the error should be corrected at the time of grading.

I sure hope so.

Thanks again!

@Lloe01 - FYI, just after I responded above, CBCS updated the TAT's. Rapid is not 4-5 weeks and Quickstream is now 10 weeks. If you have pressing for either, the TAT will be doubled for each tier.

Missing my Iron Man #1 (1964)
I just sent this to Customer Service:

Hi,

You show Journey into Mystery 84 on 21-357B651-QS. This is incorrect! It should be on invoice 21-357C066.

I submitted my Iron Man #1 (1968) for 21-357B651-QS and it is somehow missing from 21-357B651 and Journey into Mystery 84 is on BOTH 21-357B651 and 21-357C066!

Please tell me what has happened to my Iron Man #1 (1968).

Thank you.

Hi, long time 'other guy' user, recently sent in my first CBCS sub, 15 moderns, no press, no fast pass. Checking it out. Also sent 2 books looking for a signature verification. Obviously not received yet.

I am wondering at what stage of the process does CBCS take payment?

Unless the order includes things like screening or international shipping, payment is taken when the books are received into your dashboard, which right now is about 2 months after books are delivered to CBCS

Noob question from someone putting together their first submission: does CBCS have some sort of universal database for the labels on the top of the cases, so that all comics of the same type are described the same way? Like, for some of these variant covers I have I'm not sure what to call them or what the official name is, and I'm hoping CBCS has already figured that stuff out for me and is not just going to slap whatever I put in the Variant field in the submission area on the label.

From my past experience, even if I choose the wrong label, they will correct it and put the appropriate label. Given the amount of variant covers some books have I don't envy them.

@bigjohn If they have received your books into their system and you have not been billed then review the invoice and charges and if everything looks correct go ahead and pay it. If there are screening services on the order that might be why you haven’t been billed automatically

22 weeks for grading and 24 weeks for pressing. Is it safe to assume the turn around time for modern books that are getting graded and pressed would be around 46 weeks? I Got books submitted in Canada since March. No replys from Customer Service. 37 weeks and counting...@SteveRicketts

I sent some books to CBCS Canada in August. The 8 week maximum turnaround for grading they advertise is evidently not even close to being true. These were my first submissions to CBCS, laughably I was trying to avoid the wait times at CGC. Also, no replys form customer service. Anyone have a phone number for CBCS Canada?

COLLECTOR dielinfinite private msg quote post Address this user
@Puffysmack If you submitted the books through the CBCS Canada portal then they may take several weeks longer to complete than the estimated turnaround times.

@parkerbi I wasn’t aware that they still had that on the website. And no, not even close to being true. Even US customers are taking around 5 months on non-expedited orders.

Unfortunately CBCS’ Customer service is spotty at the best of times. You’re better off repeatedly trying to email customer service as the calls are manned by an outsourced call center and they are less than helpful with anything outside what you can already do yourself via the website

Hi everybody! I'm new!

Well I'm not so much a newbie as a defector from those who shall not be named, but I do have a couple of newbie like questions.

I splurged for the silver membership as I have a few stacks of horror-esque and sword and sorcery books that I want to get slabbed. Which, along with some severe drop in QC, is the main reason why I switched as the other guys enormous white box in the corner REALLY detracts from the horror vibes and great artwork. But I digress. My questions are:

1. The eCoupons that come with the membership, do I just write on the invoice that I want to use them? Or do I get some kind of email? I've tried reaching out to CBCS with no response in the last... maybe 2 weeks. And I've combed through the forums but I can't find an answer.

2. The slab only option, is that like I get the book encapsulated with the key notes but no grade? There are a few books that would be cool to just display in my comic cave but I'm unsure about the exact details of the option.

Thanks in advance.

Yep, just write them on your invoice. If CBCS runs a discount in the future (like 10% off with code COMICSRULE) you can sometimes put that code in on the website when you create your order, but even then I write the code on the invoice too. When in doubt, write on the invoice.

I believe that's correct, if by 'notes' you mean the label. I haven't used it personally but I assume there are no graders notes since it isn't graded.

The first post describes the services in more detail. The main caveat with the Slab-Only option is that it is only for books with signature verification. The price includes verification for one signature. Unless something has changed recently then it cannot be used for witnessed signatures or unsigned books.

@xkonk right on. Thanks for the information and quick reply. Already leaps and bounds better than the other forum 🤣

@dielinfinite the slab only question wasn't for signature books, so I guess that's out haha but that makes sense why they would offer the option. Although I have a few of those I was holding onto for a future submit. I might have to rethink which one of these stacks goes first.
