Super white copy of this great FF issue. This comic also features a fan letter from a young Dave Cockrum.

Reminds me somewhat of M.C. Escher.

That's who I was thinking of! Of course. Thanks!

It's fun to see that early era stuff.

I had a decent copy of #1 back in the day, but since it had the word "gook" written on it and bothered me so much, I had it cleaned off. It was just too offensive to me even though I knew it was done during an era that were were not friendly (to say the least) with Japan.

I can see that would be a problem.

Speaking of inappropriate racial statements, I present the entire character of Whitewash Jones. It's actually so egregiously bad I find it hysterical. It's like a parody of racism.

Used to have that one in similar condition. I think I sold it for $40. One of those books I wish I could have back.

Don Rosa, or as I like to refer to him, Cranky McQuack. Just kidding. He has always been fairly affable when I've asked him to do something or engaged him in conversation.

I bought this one off the rack when it came out. Was excited to meet Don Rosa at HeroesCon a couple years ago! But boy, was he a prickly old timer.

I only met him once, but he was very pleasant then. Maybe you caught him on a bad day.

I asked him one time why he didn't do such and such show. He looked at me and said, " They didn't ask me." I was taken aback by his comment because I thought, "Who wouldn't want Don Rosa at their show?"

Always loved this cover!
Also very hard to find in decent shape, every little flaw shows up on these black covers.

I was inspired by the first picture in this thread, Superboy 147. So I went on Ebay last night and bought a 9.2 white pages for $130. GoCollect.com modeler gives it a FMV of $600 but I can't find any sales history that would support this valuation. Any thoughts why the FMV estimate would be so different from what I was able to easily purchase for?

I'd like to say I still turned out alright, but that would be a lie. flanders private msg quote post Address this user
The simple answer is that Gocollect's modeler is highly inaccurate. It's always best to use the actual sales data instead of any modeler or analyzer. According to GoCollect, that same exact comic was sold on Ebay for $135.00 is March 2019. It looks like you got a great deal though, considering others in that condition have sold for a bit higher and your has the perk of having a pedigree.

GoCollect prices are not based on actual transactions. In additional Superman & Superboy are not popular these days.

Below please find from GPA

Just thought I'd throw the Dreck Check data in here. I set the search for "All Records", a range of 9.1 to 9.3, and with CGC and CBCS sales. This is what it came up with.

Heritage seems to offer one up periodically.
Have you ever graded a Suspense #3. My friend was trying to track down a lead on that book once. He had some neat stuff periodically like Amazing Man #5.
