Thanks! After your extensive experience of interacting with beautifully pressed issues up close, are you now able to immediately discern a Ricketts/CBCS production vs. lesser pressers?

I can't tell when a book is pressed CORRECTLY, but I see so many badly pressed books and I know which horrible presser did the work sometimes.

@sborock what mistakes do you see? Like too much pressure, causing micro cracks along spine? I have seen that a few times. I think, that some think the more pressure the better. I've also seen opening edge lifting and not laying flat after pressing cycle. Usually from wrong temp and lack of time in cold press.

Those and other even worse defects! They are really ruining nice comics😩

Are whole-book wavies from an otherwise decent press job considered a defect? I've read a ton of CBCS notes over the years but don't recall ever seeing mention of that common amateur pressing problem. Would it be Noted as something like "book doesn't lay flat"?

We use, in the notes, "moisture ripples" instead of "water damage" so that you know it's probably from a bad press.

If the book does not lay flat, it could be from bad pressing or improper storage.

Kirby in the house! Quick grading notes question for you: if the defects listed in the Notes determined the grade, did any unlisted defects just not lower that grade further?

I appreciate any clarity 👍

@sborock I've always found that cover to be a bit mesmerising. The red + green and purple + yellow colour combinations and that persistent question of whether it was Batman's knuckle sandwich that took the guy out first or Robin's enthusiastic head-butt-to-the-crack. Fun and fascinating at the same time.
