I wish I still lived in Dallas. I would certainly come see you. You would be training another grader.

@Pre_Coder @SBorock - I was just thinking the same thing the past couple of nights.

Dream Job.

Yes, your book will hit my desk as I do all high value.

Happy dance! I believe my QuickStream order will fall into that category.

@sborock - First, thank you for taking time to reply to my questions, both here and in other threads. Honestly, I am a bit humbled that you do that.

Second, I think that is an absolutely astonishing number of books. In your position the simple fact that you take the time to look at books like, perhaps mine, is even more incredible. I know that every book is time consuming as you pore over the details. What an amazing process!! Thank you for this minor insight into what you do.

Finally, if it were geographically possible, I would absolutely LOVE to become a grader. Comic books, for me, have been a fairly significant part of my life. I love the history and the portion of pop-culture that they represent. Being even a small part of that preservation process would be an honor.

Thank you again for all you do!

Respectfully,

PDG

p.s. My 94 is double signed by Claremont and Bob McLeod, and I estimate it would probably be a 4.0, although I would hope for maybe a 5.5. Let's see what it comes back as!!

@sborock since you keep getting volunteers, do all graders have to give up their collections, or at least not use a grading service anymore, or was that just your personal choice?

Couple of my favorite wonder woman books, both done during the Joye Hummel era.

Important trivia news:Wonder woman derived her golden lasso of truth due to her creator, Marston, who invented the polygraph machine...itself a golden lasso of truth ...of sorts

Graders can collect comic books but can't buy or sell CBCS books. They love this hobby and would not be fair to stop them from collecting.

I gave up my collection to let the hobby know that I would always be impartial when grading.

Thanks! I really want to get books faster to everyone, so I have been working weekend for about 6 months.
Very worth it when I hear how happy people are when they get their books back!

I love old comics where the covers tell a story or right away tells you what the story is

I want to start collecting the old Superman's "girlfriend lois lane" and "pal jimmy olsen" because of those covers. comics now a days dont do it as much. but those series. theyd tell you what hijinks were involved...whether Lois is becoming an african american woman to write a story to see what its like....or some kind of kryptonite.

I know Batman did as well but I think the Superman ones were the best

The reason for this is that the artist drew the cover first and then DC had the writer write a story based on the cover. It was a hold-over from the Pulps and a crappy way to write a comic imo 😆

Yeah, it's one of the reasons Marvel kicked ass when they started doing superheroes, they did it the opposite way.

@power_struggle55

Many superhero concepts were originated primarily at DC (the team concept, multiverse, continuity). What Marvel did exceptionally well was focus on the non-masked personas. Something DC introduced but neglected to develop and mature. Combine with hubris at DC and a healthy dose of “fast following” copying of better ideas by Stan Lee (who often improved in the execution) and you have the recipe.

but because I like see what stuff people submitted.

Thanks! After your extensive experience of interacting with beautifully pressed issues up close, are you now able to immediately discern a Ricketts/CBCS production vs. lesser pressers?

I can't tell when a book is pressed CORRECTLY, but I see so many badly pressed books and I know which horrible presser did the work sometimes.
