Offered before going to grading.9852

Collector Jlh9776 private msg quote post Address this user
So i have decided to send this in for grading but i wanted to offer it up to any interested parties before i do so. I am putting a price on here so i fall within the guidelines of the forum but please only come at me with a reasonable offer. Can take as many pictures as needed. 1 copy at a 4.5 on the cgc census id assume this would grade much higher
$5000

The pictures make the book look thicker than it really is. CGC grades fairly very thick comic books and TPB's. There are a few Christmas edition comics from the Golden Age (some Captain Marvel's come to mind) that run 300 pages, and CGC grades them.

It seems a bit odd to me CGC has only graded one copy of this book. But that is all that shows on their census

The seller for the one on eBay must be smoking the good stuff. That said, this is a rare book that collects Jeff Smith’s early Bone strips from his college newspaper. You’ve got a great copy there!

Here’s a crappy photo of some of his actual earliest work prior to the publication of Tales From The Lantern. Some of his OSU work never made it into later publications because it was too controversial.

Nice piece, but I'd never pay over $100 for a copy regardless of what other people would pay.

What is the print run on this book?

Low census could just mean low demand.

I believe the print run is less than 5,000.

Here is some of the information I've found. This states it was printed in 1989 but the copywrite in this book in 1982/83

Thorn: Tales from the Lantern: During college, Jeff Smith produced a series of comic strips that serve as a beta-version of the Bone series, though with the Bone cousins Fone and Phoney as supporting cast members and Thorn as the main character. The strips correspond with the first 28 issues of the Bone series, and was collected as a trade paperback after Smith graduated in 1989. It sold merely a thousand copies, and is currently out of print.

you know what they say.."There's an ass for every seat"! To each his own, yada yada.....I'm guessing demand is minimal. Nuff said...

If you’re not familiar with Bone, it’s an award winning series for a reason. While you may disagree with this seller’s asking price, a book this rare will still carry value many years from now. The same cannot be said for mass produced variant covers, price variants, second print variants, and the majority of modern books.

Print run was 1,000.

People will pay thousands for this. I personally wouldn't, though.

I have, however, paid hundreds for signed and limited hardcovers.

Each his own...one mans treasure is another's discard.....since I collect some rather eccentric things I would say congratulations on this and I wish your efforts well.

Never saw the point in belittling anothers collection specialities by stating that it was worthless to me...There is often a market for tbings we do not enjoy ourselves or place much value on.

Bone was popular in the 90's. People thought it might do something more. It didn't. It's a cool book, but there are better places to spend big money. Anybody who REALLY wants it will pay what it takes to get it. I'm not that person.

Does this mean I'm not supposed to go through random eBay listings and message the seller "no thanks, not interested"?

Ending in a few minutes, I expect the price to jump up a couple thousand (I don't have that kind of money, won't be bidding).

Congratulations! Pretty close with your $5,000 estimate. A couple of skeptics in this thread might be a little surprised to find it was worth as much as a small used car.

The winning bidder probably fell asleep with a smile on their face. That book will always be in demand especially once more people who love Bone realize it's significance.

Thanks, It was never really meant to be an estimate they just make you put a price on items for sale so I threw a crazy price up there. Definitely not disappointed though!
