Your Favorite Mini Series?9848

Collector 00slim private msg quote post Address this user
Let’s discuss our favorite mini series & why we recommend it.

Let’s try & keep clear of the established classics like ‘Dark Knight Returns’, ‘Marvels’, etc.

If it’s available in TPB or hardcover, even better!

My first pick is ‘Batman: Jekyll & Hyde’.

It dives deep into Two-Face’s origin and the psychology behind WHY Harvey Dent developed his split personality.

I also loved the art.

Catwoman: When In Rome

A great series by Loeb and Sale, which takes place in parallel with Batman Dark Victory, in which Selina travels to Rome to try to prove Carmine Falcone is her father.

One of my all time limited series is Fantastic Four vs X-Men!! Both teams at their height of their popularity. Dr. Doom at his most bad ass self

so i just finished last issue of spider-man: life story

damn.. that hit me in the feels. was a very fast ( jarringly so at times) jump through decades but enthralling what-if summary on the life of spider-man and really captured him well.

will get the trade of this one as i think ill be reading it a lot!

Kraven's Last Hunt

Possibly the best Spidey story line ever???

Please make this a movie - a two parter. 1st part right up until Spidey is 'killed' and Kraven takes over. 2nd part with Spidey coming back.

Transformers: Last Stand of the Wreckers, IDW 2010

Probably the most tense TF story I read. Also shows the Autobots are just as bad as the Decepticons in their war. A far cry from the wholesomeness of the original series.

I have always been a fan of the DC Elseworlds stories. My favorite is The Golden Age, an underrated and excellent series.

Although I usually cite either Superman: Red Son or Joker (Hardcover) by Azzarello & Bermejo as a couple of my favorite mini-series, there is another I’d come across again while reorganizing my collection - Spider-Man: Reign.

It’s only a four issue series, so it’s a quick read but also a great “what-if” type story. Set 30 years after Spider-Man has retired, NYC is free of superheroes and super villains but is under total control of the mayor who utilizes the authoritarian governments police force known as “The Reign”. This is, imo, a highly underrated series that still holds up as a great mini to this day. I recommend this to all ASM fans who might’ve missed this the first time around.

Salvation Run

DC villains in a Lord of the flies story line.
Characters break up into three groups.
Lex Luthor on one side The Joker on the other.
And Vandal Savage with his small harem 🤪

I posted about this series in the last thread about favorite series and I think not too many have read this

Salvation Run (Bill Willingham) was a good miniseries.

I also liked Willingham's Day of Vengence, which led into Shadowpact, one of DC's most underrated series (IMO, of course).

Another great series Cosmic Odessey
Jim Starlin writer Mike Mignola pencils
Return to some of Kirby's fourth world characters.
In the late 80s Marvel went Baxter paper for their mini series while DC were owning in the prestige format series.
Still remember Batman the killing joke and the first issue of Batman the cult coming out the same month. After buying them and still buying my monthly titles from both Marvel and DC stretched my junior high after school working income to the extreme.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned this, yet.

The Squadron Supreme series from the 1980s.

Wow! That was radical in its time and almost looks prescient 30 plus years later.

Check it out if you can.

I agree with Squadron Supreme.

I'm partial to Wolverine's 4 issue limited series.

For something modern, I've enjoyed Tom King's MaxiSeries: The Vision, Mister Miracle, and Sheriff of Babylon. I'm also partial to Mitch Gerad's art in the last two.

I can't really think of many mini-series that I like a lot.

I like this one. This series was fun as opposed to the soft porn that it later became.

Bought some art from it.

Same here. I was the winner of the "name the letters page" contest...my name is immortalized in issue #3 (I think it was that issue?) I received a call from Todd M. & he mailed me an original art page. I stupidly traded the original art off early on! I named the letters page "Crawl Space"...actually it was a tie between me and another person and names were selected from a hat.
