Powers of X #1 ... New hot comic?9765

Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock Tedsaid private msg quote post Address this user
Powers of X #1 released a week ago, and I've just noticed something crazy. There was a variant cover over at The Comic Mint (and partners) by Gerald Parel. Which looks great, by the way. And it turns out it is selling for something like $200 on eBay now, even though it just came out. It was limited to just 500 and sold for $30 per copy. And it sold out VERY fast.

Have you guys heard anything? Not just of this one, but all the variants and such? I thought the print run and the HUGE number of variants would keep the price down on these. But maybe not. Are any of the others flying off the shelves? Is it a good read? (I don't have mine yet.) Should I pick up a few more? (Of the regular issues, of course. That variant, pictured below, is gone, gone, gone.)

What does everyone think?

Once you see it, it's hard to un-see it. Kind of like that famous Superman cover by Neal Adams.

Those do look like ballet shoes as they match her ballet legs. She looks like to be the one lifting. If she was a speedster that be ok 🤪

No, no ... look at Superman's leg. Neal Adams said that the editor wanted "Kryptonite Nevermore" to be completely between his two legs. So Adams had to make his left leg longer and awkward, to 'stretch' it around the words. Now Supes has this one weird-shaped, mutant leg.

Um, somewhat, but at least he doesn't look like the Attack of the 50 Foot Woman has laid waste to the entire city.

I got the standard cover and the Weaver variant cover. I don't look around at the little shops and don't typically like to pay more than cover unless it blows me away.

@Tedsaid I don't know anything about value/speculation, but this and House of X are supposed to be setting up the next couple years of X books. So they could be important. Hard to say after one each if they'll be good.

(spoilers for folks who haven't read the book yet) @GanaSoth The character is from a future where mutants were bred/cloned for war. She looks like Colossus and Magik but the book says explicitly that she's got genes from Colossus, Quentin Quire, Unus the Untouchable, Kitty Pryde, and Laura Kinney. I guess it would be fair to say "clones... real original", but I think that ship has already sailed.

Hey, he convinced me, too.

Actually, this was the cover I ordered from Unknown a month ago during the "buy two, get two" sale, and they cancelled 10 days ago for no stated reason. Still trying to find out why. Anyway, this post prompted me to buy a few replacements, in case the order stays cancelled. It was "buy two, get one free" this time, so I bought three.

The Stephanie Hans 1:25 for Powers of X #1 is fantastic to me. I had to pick that one up.

For me, this new event has been great. It's Hickman being the best Hickman and so if you at all enjoy his storytelling style, then you will most likely enjoy this story as well.

In terms of the new character, her name is Rasputin IV and she's a mix of Colossus, Unus the Untouchable, X-23, Kitty Pryde and Kid Omega.

At least she doesn't have a bionic eye, 183 pouches, an x in her name, and badly drawn or non existent feet, and turns out to be the daughter of a future species bred from a distant cousin who lived on the same street as the milkman who traveled back in time to deliver milk before its expiration date, or a bad tempered , drama drenched , idea stealing, creator.

Waiting for a female Professor X and Juggernaut.

I don't think Marvel should be allowed to use the description "All New" in anything they do anymore.
Not unless they do like breakfast cereals (Froot Loops) and spell it, "Awl Noo".

You've heard of The Golden Raspberry Awards (also known in short terms as Razzies), there needs to be one for the worst most F'ed up cover.

BTW, really liked the story in House of X. Cool concept. I think this storyline will do very well.

I have been pleasantly surprised as well. That or my standards have dropped due to Rosenberg's run on X-men. I will admit I'm on the fence about the Retcon in House of X #2. I'm holding off on judgement until the series is over.
