So I got this book back from CBCS a couple months ago, and noticed it appears to be rather jammed-tight into the slab, and as a result the back cover was wobbled quite a bit. I'm afraid it's not actually the 6.0 it was before they slabbed it. Is this kind of common with some silver-age books? |

Did you get it pressed? It's my understanding this can happen some time after pressing for a pressed book...on rare occasions.

My first question would be, was it flat prior to having it slabbed and did you have it pressed?

@JesterHats Looking at the images on my phone and can’t make out the serial # on the slab. Can you look up the grader’s notes and post them here? |

Looking at them now, maybe the "bends" are the wobble i see?

Yeah but I wasn't wanting it to go through all that. More cost and time till I got it back.

I paid $130 for it a couple years ago, so even in a 6.0 it should be a good return if I sell it.

The wobble/waves look similar to these books - http://the-comic-book-forum.boards.net/thread/299/post-crack-permanent-damage-waves I'd be concerned about the damage that can happen to the book if it's kept in the holder for a long time. |

@JesterHats - It couldn’t hurt to ask a CBCS rep about the waves. If it is due to pressure from the CBCS slab, I am sure they would press and fix it for you for free.

Ok, thank you all for your replies! I have just e-mailed CBCS customer service.

So I got a reply from CBCS and they said the grader notes mentioned bends and that the stain mentioned on the back cover may have caused the wobbles.. They said I could resubmit it for pressing and grading but didn't offer it for free, so I'll just deal with it. |

Also, did it look like this when you first got it back?

Yes, when I got it back. Ugh I hate the idea of cracking it out. Waisted money on getting it slabbed.

Quote:Originally Posted by JesterHats I understand what you mean, but it's better than paying money to damage your book, or paying more money to fix it (IMO). The longer it's in there, the worse the damage. I don't know if it's the same thing as in the link above, but if it was flat (or flat-ter), and it's now doing this, the damage would be the same regardless. |

This is the email I sent. All you had to do was answer and I would have helped you. "Hi Joey! I am not sure why the book would change in the holder UNLESS it was pressed before and, since paper has a memory, if it was hydrated and had not sat long enough before being sold/slabbed, the book could revert back and look "warped". Please LMK if this could be the cause. Looking forward to hearing back from you. Kindest regards, -Steve" |
