I'm new here to I apologize if this violates a rule or has been discussed before:

I'm always skeptical when very "high-grade" high value books are being sold raw...why not just have them graded?
Check out how many times this "accurate grader" has sold (and had returned) this book.

Prefer slabbed copies? Why not just search for graded copies?

I've seen this before with others.
I think it's a tactic to get more hits when folks are searching.
I have to imagine "9.8" and "CGC" are two of the most searched phrases for comic collectors .... and "9.9".... well.... that's when folks come out of the woodwork to get their unicorns. This seller has got them all in the title field.

This tactic also tends to end in higher $$$ amounts because after all.... it's a 9.8/9.9

Shady imo.... but it does seem to work against the uninformed; and for the buyer who gets exponentially more $ on completed sales.

Anyone who would buy a raw believing it's a 9.9/10 is lying to themselves. However, ebay has the ability to fix this. When I sell coins, you CANNOT use a number grade to post. For instance, you can say MS (mint state), but can not say MS 63. That's an official grade assigned by a grading company. You can say AU (almost uncirculated), but can't say AU-58. Raw comics should never have a grade number associated with them, this should be treated like coins. Instead saying NM-/NM or F/VF should be sufficient. We've already covered in another thread you can't say CGC, PGX, CBCS in an auction (if it's not graded with one of these services); it violates ebay policy (and by the way, gives the buyer, immediately, a reason to return item because the description is wrong). Since this person accepts returns, I have no idea what the point in this would be. I also see something else pretty shady. People will post saying 9.8 when the comic is clearly a graded 9.6. But they put it in that way stating "will press to a 9.8". Completed BS.

If I remember right, the other day somebody on the boards was complaining that their posts got taken down because they were doing something similar to the CBCS/CGC thing in their title for a raw book. Seems like EBay is cracking down, so maybe they will get this guy too.

The only problem here is that the Overstreet grading standards use numbered grades in addition to a letter designation (NM, VF, etc.). So, the assignment of a number grade to a raw comic is an accepted practice. But I do see your point.

The Red Book comes out every year (and weekly T-sheets) that explicitly describe and define the numbered grading of coins as well. Ebay will NOT allow you to assign a number grade to a coin auction unless you also include grading information (like ANACS registration 8203894 or something). There is no difference.

My original point was that this seller has sold the same exact book 4 times in the last 90 days. So obvious it's been returned 3 times. If you could see the pictures you would see that it's the same photographs in each listing.
And it's been going on for years. This seller seemed to have an unlimited supply of very high grade key books (X-men GS 1, ASM 50, etc. in 9.4 to 9.4 ungraded. But when I looked at the search history, the same books are being sold over and over...with no negative feedback. Clearly he takes the returns without any hassle, He's just hoping a sale will stick if he finds the right buyer.

Yeah, and I'm saying ebay already has a system in place that might be able to help with this issue on their side similar to what they do with coins and I don't understand why they do not. Sellers like this are also why you can no longer get fees back on sales. I'd say they should remove this seller, but imagine how much money they're making off of the seller from fees even though the comics keep getting returned.
