per wiki....ebay doesn't own paypal. Still I agree with the hurdles in the future statement...."It was announced on September 30, 2014, that eBay would spin off PayPal into a separate publicly traded company, a move demanded in 2013 by activist hedge fund magnate Carl Icahn. The spin-off was completed on July 18, 2015.[50][51][52] Dan Schulman is the current President and CEO, with former eBay CEO John Donahoe serving as chairman.[49] On Jan 31, 2018 eBay announced that, "After the existing eBay-PayPal agreement ends in 2020, PayPal will remain a payment option for shoppers on eBay, but it wonβt be prominently featured ahead of debit and credit card options as it is today. PayPal will cease to process card payments for eBay at that time." [53][54]

Does this mean I can no longer use these "key words" when selling an album?? RARE HTF VHTF MONO STEREO a visual grade - SS/ M / NM / VG+ / VG / P FYI - all of these ARE CONSIDERED "key words" to me, because they too are used by me and I would imagine, many other sellers too, in order to attract business to their channel and products. Now eBay wants to be "SPECIFIC" in their key word selection policy with specific key words? Hmmmm...sounds like a double standard to me. As a seller, this won't go very far if pushed back by sellers. Hmmmm.....interesting topic. |

Quote:Originally Posted by ZosoRocks I thought about this a lot. Those words still describe your item without invoking the name of another company/trademark. Putting CGC in the title or a CBCS listing, does not describe the item. It describes what it isn't and is completely unrelated to the product itself. I, personally, prefer for all slabs to come up when I'm searching for a comic. So, now, i just type in the comic I'm looking for and the grade I'm looking for. Usually catches all the CBCS/CGC/PGX. |

Would they allow: Blah blah #1 NM (CBCS or CGC it) I've seen lots of auctions like that. |

When Im looking for a particular book, graded a particular way, I actually get really frustrated by people doing this. I don't need to see 50 search hits when I could in fact be only browsing 5. I'm personally glad they're doing something about this. |

That's like saying; Super Hot Blah Blah #1 NM Since eBay can't determine if the comic is "hot" (define hot in terms of selling/comics) would they also consider that keyword spamming? When people are selling CBCS comics & they put in the title of the auction (Not CGC) they are directly stating it's NOT a CGC comic. This is all silly to me IMO. |

I believe this rule has been in place for a long time even before CBCS existed. My memory tells me that it was CGC that made the rule and I guess ebay obliged. People selling PGX books with the "not CGC" in the listings started this I think. I'm pretty sure it does have to be reported by someone. I figured when it started CGC was doing the reporting.

Simple solution to this: Use the new CGC/eBay service to authenticate the item is indeed a graded CBCS comic. Haha Then use both companies names in the title. |

All jokes aside it does get annoying having a bunch of stuff come up which you have no interest in. Happens way too much and there is no way any sane person would dob in every listing that used key words to get hits. If one did they'd have to give up their day job ![]() |

I remember back around 2000 ebay was a great place to sell, a virtual world market with just enough rules to keep things moving, definitely some flaws, but you could organize and sell things unique to your style. Now in the rush to compete with Amazon they have become a ...thing they were meant to offer an option away from....I miss that version of ebay. It has its issues but was fun and great place to buy and sell

Keyword spamming traces back to early attempts at search engine optimization. Website developers would load up the hidden metadata on the page with search terms that they felt would get them to the #1 spot on search engine results. The header for the web page would be filled with unrelated words to the subject matter in the web page. People would get their page to the #1 spot, but it would have no connection to the search terms people were typing into the search engine. Although there is no malicious intent behind saying "not CGC" in your eBay listing, it is essentially the same thing. The policy is there to improve the integrity of the search results and they are right for having it. If they didn't have the policy, you'd search for CGC comics and have a page full of penis pumps come back for the top results. I know I'm exaggerating, but you wouldn't get the search results you wanted and eBay would have more users give up before they found a listing they'd want to buy.

Take this out of cgc/cbcs for a minute Say here's a seller who deals in socks and desires more hits and thinks 'well if someone is buying a shoe there's a chance you may want to buy the socks as well ... " So he makes a listing : socks ( not shoes ) Gets more hits .. then thinks . "Hmm there are other keywords for shoe searches. Also when people buy pants they may want socks to match ... or even socks to match a scarf .. or shirt.. " So the listing becomes : Socks.. NOT shoes sneakers sandals heels flip flops pants shirt scarf hat Other sock sellers see this and think hey more hits I'll do this too. Before long searching for any article of clothing becomes a chore because of key wording by sellers of other items filling searches with piles of stuff you werent looking for . EBay HAS to police this stuff so searches show what buyers are looking for in a convenient manner At end of day if someone searches CGC they ARENT searching for CBCS ... |

Ok I fixed all my listings My thing, let's say the buyer can't find an affordable 9.8.. and wants to give it to someone as a gift, hence the 9.4 shows up as an option.. but oh well EBAY HAS SPOKEN! That's the rule. Now I know. |
