I tend to side with Donnied.... The "Pedigree" Thing is a bunch of BS. Just another slick marketing ploy to dup people into paying a premium.

I would never give a premium for any pedigree book and if I did somehow end up with one I would have it re-slabbed as I have no desire to have someone else name on my book.

The (BOOK) and its (GRADE) is (ALL) that matters, where it came from is irrelevant.

@BigRedOne1944 I just have to play Devil's advocate for a second. If there were a Lee Marvin Pedigree of Golden Age Captain America Comics, and you owned a slabbed one with the pedigree right on the label, would you still send it in to get the pedigree note taken off??

it's more information about the actual book. Why is this an issue for people? if you had a book right from, let's say Jack Kirby's collection, you wouldn't want that noted? I don't understand complaints for services you wouldn't use. its like being angry with Sesame Street..if you wont use the service then you're not the target audience.

Sides are fine when they add to a well rounded meal, but for a great main coarse my preference is the filet mignon.

Apples and Oranges here Jessie

Lee Marvin is a celebrity, as is Jack Kirby. Both with distinguished careers in their respected genres.
Any books such as those may very well draw a premium for their "celebrity status" regardless of actual book condition. The Book grade is not necessarily the Star here

"Pedigree Status" of some Tom, Dick or Harry is based Solely on book condition and the reprieved perception that it came from a superior cared for collection. There is no celebrity status involved here.
Book condition is the Star here... Tom, Dick and Harry are irrelevant.

Depends on how big of an ego your trying to feed. Chief can serve it on silver platter or a paper plate but its still the same filet Mignon

More Information? Useless Information IMHO. There are plenty of people with super nice collections, many on this very board. I have some superior looking books myself.... would you like my name on the label of your newly acquired book? Oh and I'll need to charge you a premium for it of coarse.

This Pedigree thing would most certainly make P.T Barnum proud

Sorry, but I have to chime in here.

If Tom, Dick and Harry collected a substantial number of comics 75 or 80 years ago and those collections survived in grade, the story of those books and the original owners will mean something to most collectors. This deserves acknowledgement IMO, ...other’s mileage notwithstanding.

I’m assuming you missed the memo on Lamont Larson’s recent birthday? 🎂

Since he’s still with us, he’s a living celebrity, AFAIC.

But the presentation will be tipped accordingly.

useless info to you but maybe not someone else. my understanding is this pedigree label is optional.

Pedigree books were around long before the advent of the cgc or CBCS. Collectors new that if a book hailed from a certain collection, then it was more than likely to exhibit highly sought after qualities such as white pages, color preservation, and better than average condition. It was the collecting public that gave pedigrees their collecting status, not the grading companies. Not liking a book because of its pedigree status is like being mad at the sun because it shines too bright.

Even if they had a label on the bags! Think of it along the lines of the signature program with red and yellow labels.

Church books have to be the most easily identifiable books out there. Cover markings from the distributor, the smell, and overall quality. I guarantee both CBCS and CGC could figure out if they were Mile High books quite easily. There are records, auction catalogs, the original Mile High list and so on. Out of curiosity are these golden age books?
