Going to Quebec City - Suggestions Anyone?9521

I live in RI and Rhode Islanders eat chili with beans. esaravo private msg quote post Address this user
Driving up to Quebec City this weekend with my wife for a few days of sightseeing. Can any of my fellow forum members from Canada give me some advice on comic book stores and other attractions that might interest me and/or her? Our hotel is just north of Downtown Quebec (Old Town) near a bridge and Montmorency Falls.

Thank you.

I don’t know about any comic book stores there, but Quebec City is beautiful. Enjoy!

Old Quebec city is beautiful!

No visit to Quebec City is complete without taking a stroll on the Terrasse Dufferin. It is situated within the walls of the Vieille Ville (Old Quebec) next to the the impressive Chateaux Frontenac. You can see the city of Levis across the majestic St. Lawrence River; boats, barges and ships on the river; and possibly even a cruise ship or two docked in the harbor below. You may just want to sit and relax while enjoying the rich history this city has to offer. Plan plenty of time to spend here. You won't regret it.

@esaravo It is a beautiful city. I went there for an F1 race years ago. Some of the French speaking people are not too friendly though to English speaking visitors. I woul love to go back again though. Unfortunately I cannot give you advice on LCS there. Have fun, enjoy!

I have only experienced Montreal, which is very anti anglophone...I would imagine the deeper you get into Quebec the more worse this gets. Driving is brutal especially if you have non Quebec plates, you'll get cut off and the police target non Quebec cars...that said, my daughter has been with her Grade 8 class and her experience was that it was a beautiful place with lots of scenic buildings and sights, but she speaks French.

Sadly it has been 20 odd years since I was last in Quebec city but only 3 or 4 years since hitting Motreal! - the Citadelle is always fun, nothing like forts from the late 1600's!!

It is true that sometimes some are not friendly - but in my experience it is rarer and rarer.
Caveat : I am not fluent but I was able to pass a french test 25yrs ago at University of Ottawa as we weren't guaranteed to have all classes available in English.

Lost a lot over the years but still retain enough to comment on their conversations in French - might have something to do with them not being super rude to me.

Ok, this is great I’m in Montreal right now. Quebec is way more friendlier then MTL.they love US $$$. They get a lot more tourists and they thrive on their $$.So I wouldn’t worry too much about that. MTL nightmare construction up here is a disaster Stay away !!!! Now for the all important question Comics! Lots of overpriced mid-grade SA wall books and a few slabs too. Some long boxes with US back issues (didn’t really see anything too exciting).

They did have a few (very few) older comics in French, so I picked up these two:

Spent yesterday on the Isle d’Orleans. Lots of small vineyards with wine tasting, fresh apples and strawberries, cheeses, and other goodies. Stopped at several antique stores with absolutely no comics. I did stop at a fruit and vegetable stand/small store that had various odds and ends. I saw a small display case that had apple pies/tarts across its top. Inside the case were old dusty hockey magazines and a few Canadian comics from the 1950’s. Unfortunately, the woman did not speak English and the books were all Westerns and in roughly fair to good condition. I was able to figure out they belonged to her late husband and she had no idea what to ask for them. I really didn’t see anything that grabbed my eye, so I thanked her and left them there. They weren’t Canadian Whites, they had color covers and black and white interiors.

Walked all over Quebec City today and spent a good amount of time visiting the Citadelle de Quebec. Also returned to the comic book shop I had visited on Sunday.

They actually had a few different French comics, so I picked up these two:
