Walking Dead 192 & 193 hold or sell9489

Collector Enelson private msg quote post Address this user
I was never a consistent walking dead collector, but I did buy the last few issues to read. I was wondering since I'm not overly attached to these books how do others see the value of these books going. Are they going to just be cover in a few years or do you see them increasing and/or retaining value?

Pros: 2 spin off shows and movie(s)

Cons: no more physical comic books

From what I read Kirkman was planning on 300 issues and then realized he was just creating filler to get there which is why he abruptly ended it. I am not heavily invested in this series but I can see interest falling off. A lot of non-comic people I talk to said the TV shows just weren't cutting it anymore and they stopped watching. My older brother on the other hand still watches religiously.

Hard to guage what will happen to the value. I feel issue #1 will be a good barometer of where it goes from here.

Star wars last issue from marvel
Last issue of Savage sword of Conan
Popular series that were not selling much in the end so a lower printing run.
Was walking dead going that way or were the print run the same as last issue.
Is the first issue a very low print run hence the high price ?

Issue #1 was very low print run hence the crazy value.

The comic book is a still a fantastic read no matter what happens. If I had a #1 9.8 I would hold it for the long haul. The last few issues which everyone has...no so much.

I say sell and sell NOW!! Diamond made the 193 returnable, so it was over ordered. The print run on this last issue is much bigger than the rest and will not hold its value. Sell them now, you can always buy them again later, probably for less than what you sell them for while they are hot.

Transformers (Marvel)
GIJoe (Marvel)
Darkhawk
Silver surfer (vol 3)

Just the ones off the top of my head. Those were all LOW print runs, mind you.

This is all hype driven. And I think the peak has past already. So sell while you can still get $30+. Hype will fall as soon and those hoarding copies and cleared the shelves Wednesday will start to unload.

I did hear there was a new character (sheriff?) that may have some future spec value if a spin off series focuses on that character. But otherwise nothing else keeping it going/rising.

Last issue of Conan (#275) is much more valuable than the preceding issues.

Sell it. I'm sure that there is a fan of the show and/or book run that will appreciate it more than the seller. Fans will want a 1st print and not a second. Book has a huge following and will continue to make a true fan/collector happy.Personally, I have every issue..Wouldn't sell unless I really needed the money. It's a great overall story. Final issue was a nice send off. Would love to see how many #1 first prints are still in existence in reasonable condition. CGC data base only shows graded. I have heard horror stories of idiots spilling beer, throwing up, destroying their issue 1.

No they dont....but I imagine (if or) when Rick finally gets turned on screen, the book will see another temporary spike.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, too, about the low print run for last issues. Trouble is, most comics end because they were cancelled. Here we have a different model. Like Seinfeld, he quit while still ahead, just because the story - as he saw it - was done. Which is cool! But who knows what that means for long-term value.

10 days ago I ordered a 5-pack, just on the off chance it would be in demand. Then it came out that was the last issue and sold out EVERYWHERE ... even with the "returnable" aspect, and the 27,000 extra copies Diamond had on hand for re-orders. On Saturday I saw a guy preselling #193 graded 9.8 and thought that was a great idea. So I mocked up an image of the cover in a 9.8 case and did the same thing. I figure once I send them in, at least three of the five will come back 9.8 or better. (I haven't even received my copies yet, but they should arrive in the next week or so.)

Well ... my sale went live Sunday night, priced at $149.99. The first one sold in less than 10 minutes. The other two sold within 12 hours.

The demand for the early-bird "I don't want to miss out I have to have it" crowd is just insane on this book. Others presold copies as 9.8's for even more than I did. I saw at least two short auctions that ended around $175. This is on Sunday and Monday, IIRC. One ballsy fellow even presold a guaranteed 9.9, betting on the quality of the double-sized, square-bound last issue.

I don't know what will happen next but I've been working off the assumption that this issue will not have staying power. When I get mine back from Fast Track grading, if I have a couple extra 9.8's above the three I already sold, I'll keep one for myself (probably) and sell the other just as fast as I can. If I were you, I'd send yours in for fast track grading right away to jump on this train before it crashes.

As someone who doesn't care about Walking Dead and has no emotionally positive bias from a story or art perspective... I would hold onto the last issue. Just the last issue. There are going to be countless collectors that abandoned buying them at some point. The family, the kids, the bills or something made them set the collecting aside. There are also going to be new collectors at some point who see reruns of the TV show and become inspired to buy back issues. Almost all of these people will seek out the last issue first. It's a starting point in reverse order.

Yes. Everyone that's a fan wants to know how the big story ends... good or bad.

Most of the original Valiant comic titles have last issues that sell for more. Marvel's original Star Wars series. Transformers (Marvel). There are many examples.

I still don't think Star Wars #107 is such a commodiy. Last I looked there were tons available for sale. I have a 9.6/9.8 copy in mylar I once considered slabbing and then thought better. It wasn't going to be worth it in my eyes. Maybe time will prove me wrong.

I say sell not only those issues, but all of them including #1.

I don't see them sustaining any of the high values.

Of coarse Im old and don't see any real long term sustainable value in any modern books

Okay, I just gotta mention this, because I'm constantly surprised by the effects - or even the existence - of asymmetrical information, when it comes to comic book prices.

I recently sent another batch of comics to sell over at MyComicShop, and this included three Walking Dead 192's at 9.8. One of these cracked on the way over, so it will be sent in for recasing; but the other two were ready to be priced.

One thing I like to do when pricing comics over there is to kind of be aware of other people who are selling the same comic. That is, I would consider it rude if, say, they were selling copies of Bob's Your Uncle #1 for $89, $99, and $109; and someone else came in there and undercut their prices by selling theirs for $87. No. That would just be impolite. Instead, I'd put mine up for $119 or something, higher than everyone who was there first. At least, initially I'll do that. If theirs aren't selling, and are priced too high, I'll likely bring mine down later on. But I won't "cut in line," generally speaking. I'll give them a fair shot at their prices.

I also like to see if anyone else has a copy at auction. And if there is one, I might kick up the prices on my fixed price comics ... at least for a few days, until the auction is over. After all, I wouldn't want to mess with their bidding-war ju-ju. And, I like to encourage higher bids myself. Anything to help my copy sell better later on.

So anyway, I needed to price my two. There were four at MCS, but all at auction, so I looked at eBay instead. I immediately saw one selling for $69.95. (It still is; this was earlier today.) Another was $115, and there were some auctions just underway, and another fixed-price for $79.95, and so on. I also looked at recent sales, which were more in the $50 - $60 range. Nothing to get excited about, but I'll do okay, since I bought my copies for cover. And it might go up later, I thought.

Now, often MCS will sell higher than eBay. It's a different set of customers, mostly. So I put my two copies up for the very reasonable prices of $79.99 and $99.99. There. That'll do for now. Then I happened to look at the one copy that was in this week's auction, ending tonight. I noticed it before, of course, but somehow missed the current bid.

The current bid? $110.

Acckk! I was about to jinx them! And sell mine for LESS than auction! Crapola!!

So, in a bit of a panic I quickly went back and added a leading '1' to both prices. Now they were $179.99 and $199.99. Whew! That was close. I looked again, and saw the bidding was now up to around $150. Acckk!! I'm about to do it again! So I kicked 'em both up to $225, and then pushed the second one up even further, to $229.99.

Well, crisis averted. The bidding is now up to $206 and it ends in a couple hours. There is also another one on deck for each of the next three weeks, so I can't auction mine, but at least I didn't ruin someone else's day. I was even thinking of kicking the prices up a little more. $206 was getting pretty close, after all. So I had a look...

One already sold! The one marked for $225 sold! Just a little bit ago!

So I quickly raised the price on the other to $249.99. Wow! This is just crazy. I started to wonder: do I really want to wait two weeks for the third copy to get recased? This train might not last forever, after all. Or, I could - right now - buy a 9.8 on eBay for $75 or so, all-in, have them ship it directly to MCS, and - if my luck holds - sell that sucker for something in the $225 range next week?

It's worth thinking about, at least.

I'm a little bit bummed, honestly. Because I have a shipment coming later this week, that has five more 192's coming from the grading company. I'm bummed because it was a pre-screen, and of those five, four of them were rejected. Darn it! Out of 50 comics, only 8 were rejected total, but half of those were TWD 192.

Anyway, of course I'm really, really happy that I sold one comic for three times what, just a few hours before, I initially priced it at. That does NOT happen very often. Thank goodness I caught it.

Do you guys see a lot of this? Where people at one online store - e.g., eBay - pay WAY different prices than at, say, MyComicShop? (I've seen it go both ways, but usually not by this much.) I mean, how hard is it to check the two best places online for buying modern comics?
