Question about hos 929478

I showed my wife and she was so happy for me she started to cry. Batman66 private msg quote post Address this user

does anyone know about the grey toner cover? Is it a technique and do all hos 92 have it

You see it a lot on older war books. All HOS 92s are grey tone covers, but it's a stretch, in my opinion, calling it a grey tone cover.

Another grey tone that was more the norm:

I love grey tone covers. I believe it’s also sometimes called a wash drawing technique. It’s my understanding that the drawing is heavily shaded before the color is added. Here’s one of my favorites.

Here’s a better way to look at it.

This is all thanks to Bill Adler at DC, without his drive and talent this may not have been quite so prevalent.

Here's one I bought a couple of weeks ago - I'm not sure I have any others, I wasn't familiar with the technique... but it definitely has a nice look to it!

One of my favorites.

The definition from Overstreet states: Grey-Tone Cover - "A cover art style in which pencil or charcoal underlies the normal line drawing, used to enhance the effects of light and shadows, thus producing a richer quality. These covers, prized by collectors, are sometimes referred to as Painted Covers but are not actually painted."

I always thought they were more of a diffused looking cover.

I just looked at slabbed copies on eBay. None of the slabs that I saw listed it as a grey tone cover, but slabbed copies of numbers 2-4 are noted as grey tone covers. Very interesting. I sold off my raw set a few years ago. I think I still have some Sinister House issues.
