I find this devastatingly sad...even if the quality hasn't been consistent Mad has been a part of my life since I was 7 or 8 years old...so almost 35 years. Its actually one of the only things I still get a subscription by mail for....

...and wait, my subscription doesn't run out till February...what happens after it ends in october?

I still subscribe. I've been a fan for almost 50 years. My mom got me started on it at a very young age.

It's not the same magazine it used to be, but I still subscribe to help support it. Sad to see it go.

The magazine will go on, it just won’t be sold at “newsstands”. It will be available through direct market (i.e. comic book shops) and subscription.

Also, according to DC Comics, “there will no longer be new content — except for the end of year specials... the magazine will feature classic, best of and nostalgic content from the last 67 years.”

Yes, thanks for that.

Basically, a mad special full of reprints every other month.

I would not be surprised to see it pop back up as a Digital Subscription next year.

It is the way things are changing....paper to digital.

It's inevitable.

It will come back in time.
There will be a demand again in several years and someone will see $$$ and start it up again

Used to read Mad when I was in my teens and loved it. Not surprised that it's less read today, but satire is becoming anathema. It's part of our own human comedy.

We live in an era when real life has evolved into an absurd dark comedy. Every day, we become more resigned to bizarre dehumanizing behavior that used to be unimaginable. It's relentless and humorless.

Sadly, I think we're reaching a point where social parody is no longer capable of allowing us to laugh at ourselves.

Or, magazines are just becoming obsolete.

Has anyone picked up the newest volume of books since the start of the year?

Curious - that is all.

Cheers.

Both @Enelson and @SteveRicketts have mentioned that they still have subscriptions.

Yes really.

Linking MAD magazine’s reduction in distribution to “social parody is no longer capable of allowing us to laugh at ourselves” is a stretch to say the least.

It’s like saying that Playboy moving from monthly to quarterly publication is because nude women are no longer desirable to men.

The answer is one word, the “Internet”.

Like nudity, parody is also readily available online and unlike magazines, it’s free.

Needless to say, digital is gradually replacing print, contributing to the decreasing distribution of magazines like MAD and Playboy.

Similar effects are evident through the decline of printed newspapers.

Yeah, it's still funny. I still love the movie parodies. I find it to be a mixed bag, but then again I feel like it always has been.
