Why do Digital Comics cost so much??!!9410

past performance is no guarantee of future actions. KatKomics private msg quote post Address this user
Why!! why??

Same cover price for a digital book as a physical version?? surely it should be 20-30% less as no need for printing or distribution yes??

Yup...and that's why I have such an issue with digital still. If its 4.99 for a tangible item and $4.99 for digital...paper wins every time for me

Paper has a physical cost, but it's not the source for most of the expenses in producing a comic. They have to pay for the writing, the art, and digital processing. Hosting the files costs money too. I do believe it should be cheaper, but I don't think they want to undermine their print sales.

I don't believe this....and I know you don't care that I don't believe this. GAC private msg quote post Address this user
it absolutely is cheaper to produce but there is no reason to charge less.

I don't know..if it were $2 instead of $5 I might try a book digitally and then pick it up on my pull list with hard copies. As it is I'm not buying the a new book/title in any format - seems like they are missing potential sales.

What is cost of keeping a book on the cloud for the lifetime of the owner ? I assume you can't pass on a digital license to next of kin .. haven't looked into it tbh .

Once paper book is out the door there's nothing for the publisher to do .. with digital, the infrastructure to download and view the comic needs to be maintained until the business shuts down .

Admit I am lost why someone would buy an individual comic to read digtally.....when you join DC universe you get access to like 20 k digital books for 7.99 a month ….unsure what the Marvel unlimited thing costs a month but I doubt it is more than 8 or 10 dollars to read what you like ……...

Digital is no doubt great for many, many things, but I can't get past the idea that it would be too easy to "lose" them.
Don't know how likely that is.

I usually buy three copies of things if I can....but if I can read it online digitally without opening one of my copies, that's a bonus

I'm not into the new book digital. On my Kindle I have reprint books from the 60s bought at a fraction of the price for a trade paper back. Means less books to store for me. Also I have a couple of slabs from the 50s. Cool for a couple of bucks I can get them on my Kindle to read.
Paying cover price for new books released on digital for same price as a printed copy.
Don't see the benefit myself. Each to their own.

The digital sales probably help pay the cost to publish the print copies.

You’re being generous. I’d say at least 50% less since digital reproduction has no broad based collector value. Physical medium is the only way to properly collect and preserve any art (paper, papyrus, linen, canvas, etc.). One can draw and paint using digital tools, but the cultural value of the printed page and original art is inestimable.

I agree the same amount of writing and design went into either version but digital should be cheaper than printed form, in any case.
