Topic says it all...just wondering if anyone ever gets a cbcs 10 or 9.9...I subbed a comic that was as close to flawless as I've submitted...and then I had them clean and press, just to be sure...It's coming back a 9.8, so I won't complain..but who has 10s...I wanna see

If only CBCS had some kind of online record where I could see what has received 10s, like a...whaddya call it...a census?

Does cbcs press/clean a comic they think can’t be improved by the grade?

It’s possible nothing was done then the grader picked up something microscopic.

The two I got 10s on were not pressed. The Soundwave book had been sitting in a long box for close to 8 years.

Yeah I don't know, I'll have the book back on Tuesday, so I'll see then. It's a 9.8- so there's never notrs..or at least I've never seen notes on a 9.8

I’ve submitted maybe two dozen books I was sure would break the 9.8 ceiling, but never have. Each time it was a book I failed to find a flaw in after a thorough examination.

I’ve come to the conclusion 9.9 and 10 occur only when the graders are in a good mood.

Maybe we gotta slip a couple packs of lucky's in the box?

Here is the book in question(it came early)...I thought if I was gonna get a 10 this was it

I have to date submitted 197 comics to CBCS for grading. Now I do not expect them all to be 9.8's, in fact, I expect very few to be 9.8's. I have received 32 9.8's and zero 9.9's or 10's. If I just count Moderns, I am at around the 33% mark for 9.8's. I have yet to receive a 9.8 on any SA book that I have submitted. Maybe someday I will get a 9.9 or 10 on a Modern and a 9.8 on a SA book. But I am not holding my breath.

Does this book have a heavier stock cover prone to vertical creasing along the outer edge of the spine? A lot of the earlier ultimate series of books had issues like that. Pressure could create a vertical crease?

Can you zoom In looking along the edge of the spine? This region looks suspect.

Also, can you zoom in on each corner?

Also, did you hold the book up at an angle to light to make sure there are not any light "scratches" on the back cover?

I have a Tec 880 that would likely be a 9.6/9.8, but I haven't sent it in because of light scratches on the back cover...

@Drogio yes, it has heavier stock, but I didn't see any creasing or scratches...but the more I think about it, I really am wondering if the CPR may have done more harm then good

I'd be really really interested in what the difference between a 9.8, 9.9, and 10 is. In objective terms.
And I do not mean in those ambiguous "you can tell" or "it's barely noticeable, but it's there" or "it's very little, but the trained eye can tell".
In my opinion the whole 9.8, 9.9, 10 is a big scheme to keep people coming back like a lottery. Exactly like a lottery. People are attracted to the chance to "win". Winning being that 1 - 2% of getting a 9.9 or 10 vs 9.8.

The difference in the grades is if President Grant or Mr. Franklin make an appearance in the book... if you catch my drift.

I’ve never had the urge to send a 9.8 back in to try for a higher grade.

But I have two big casinos in my back yard but never play slots or tables, and never play the lottery either. So maybe I’m the exception.

You hit the nail on the head. I don’t mind CBCS trying to make money but I do wish they’d publish the differences in grades to at least appear like they don’t make up reasons for 9.8’s 9.9s & 10’s

The Grading issue IS NOT unique to just CBCS. It is a standard ploy used by all grading companies, weather it be Comic books, Sports cards or Coins.
