Dark Phoenix Reviews Are Even Worse Than I’d Expected9218

I don’t always agree with Jeremy Jahns, but I have a feeling he’s right about this one. Fair warning, there’s some cursing, but not too much. And while we don’t have the audience’s score yet, over at rotten tomatoes, this is not a good start. |

I loved “Days of the Future Past” and “First Class”. The last one and the new one look like a hot pile of dog turd.

One thing that has long bugged me about the X-Men movies, and mind you I’ve enjoyed them for the most part, is that Magneto keeps tagging along. He’s used pretty much the same way each time; good/bad until it’s time for him to switch sides, as a result every other villain feels like a guest star. I get that Magneto’s important to the mythos but the X-Men world is a lot wider than the movies really explored because they insist on keeping magneto around. They should’ve given him a rest and let another villain really occupy a film, like Mister Sinister that they’ve hinted at for years but never did anything with. |

I haven't enjoyed x men movies for a while The characters seem to always discover a new way to use / enhance their abilities just in time to overcome the next obstacle the plot gives them ... Makes them pretty boring.. rather than thinking "damn, how are they getting out of this mess with the tools they have ? " it's more " I wonder which new magic ability we are about to see ?" |

The inconsistency of the x-men movie series has been infuriating...I am glad it is finally moving over to a better set of guiding hands The first movie was an adequate starter, X2 was phenomenal, x3 was absolute garbage on every level, I really liked first class, dofp-while diverting from source, was a great film, apocalypse made me want to stab out my eyes...and this new one looks atrocious, and might be the first one I don't see in a theatre. |

The first round of x-men movies were bad because they were basically Wolverine and the idiot crew. Scott Summers got screwed - he is a much better character than the movies ever gave him credit for. Actually all the other X-Men characters got screwed because they could only focus on Wolverine - not that Wolvie isn't great and all but if you are doing X-Men do X-Men. The second round I didn't enjoy for a number of other reasons. Both rounds suck because they can't wait to blow their load with Dark Phoenix and they missed all the foreplay. Took what 4 years in the comics for Dark Phoenix to arrive??? They could have done like the Avengers and had all the X-Men movies slowly moving to the big reveal over a 10 year period. |

Problem now is that while Dark Phoenix is a great story and would be amazing to see on the big screen when done properly. If Fox has botched it (I'm seeing it Saturday) with this one, I doubt Disney will make a third run at the same story in order to do it properly. |

I have zero interest in seeing this. Honestly, it just doesn't look good to me. If Disney wants to try it again, it would have to be years down the road. Since the cosmic characters are being introduced into the MCU, it could at least be done close to correct. I'd love to the the Shiar Imperial Guard slug it out with the X-Men but that's not what we're going to get with this one.

You'd get to see classic monsters beating the tar out of each other. Sounds like a good way to kill a couple hours.

The more reviews I read on Rotten Tomatoes, the more I rethink seeing it...just seems to be very under-developed on the character side and ignores a lot of development from previous movies from what I'm reading (and this is from Comic book Fans and Staff Reviewers). Maybe John Wick 3 is money better spent! LOL |

I love the John Woo movies that inspired Joh Wick, but after the end credits of the first one, I couldn’t think of any reason for a sequel. The gunplay was so constant, it was numbing. |

I was so disappointed in the last 2 Marvel movies (Avengers & Captain Marvel) that I haven't been in the mood to see any movies. I didn't have high expectations for this one anyway.

It sounds like everyone wanted this movie to "wrap up" the fox XMen universe they've laid out for us over the past two decades, and is now whining that it doesn't do so. Look at the past movies. It's a continuity mess. Take them one at a time, judged not on how they tie in to other movies. That's what I'll do with this one, and hopefully enjoy it as I have the other X-Men films! |

just watched the movie. i was actually pleasantly surprised. it is a dark movie. No jokes (except one early on from Raven which relates to the title x-men) , no GOTG music etc. no happy ending (well sort of). only joke is that captain marvel’s powers look like kinder-garden level 1 compared to jean grey. 4 out of 5 from me. now i look forward to the next generation of x-men |

Yeah, I didn't think it was that bad. If the tomatometer for Apocalypse is 47% and Last Stand is 57%, Dark Phoenix should be way higher than 22%. I'm still holding out hope for whenever they let New Mutants come out.

I also didn't think it was that bad. Was it perfect? It sure wasn't, but it SURE was better than Apocalypse and Last Unwatchable Stand. |
