Red Labels - My fav9106

I'm good with splotches. Nuffsaid111 private msg quote post Address this user
Continuing on my journey for getting red labels pre-CGC/pre CBCS days on my keys I got signed in the 80's and 90's:

I'm quite happy with the S.H.I.E.L.D. #1, but very disappointed with the Silver Surfer #4. I'm not a complainer but I thought for sure this was an 8.5 at least. Graders notes don't seem to harsh either and are according to my observations as well.
In the end, there's many graded higher S.S. #4's, but I am willing to bet less than a handful have the entire creative team signing including Big John Buscema who passed many years ago.

I always take a photo of the signatures and include a printout in the mylar with the comic. This is how I believe comics should be signed... like a book... you open the page and an author signs. This avoids the "I don't like my covers with graphitti" dislikers and it avoids the "I can't see the signature when it's on the 1st page" dislikers. You get the best of both worlds with a printout stored with the comic.

@Nuffsaid111 those signatures are done the right way on the first page. I'm jealous of that SS #4.

I like your style....my favorite older books are similarly signed ..I only let people write on the covers of newer books that aren't as near or dear to me I guess....

Those are definitely signatures worth a red label!!

Agreed. Judging from what’s visible, that SS4 is certainly better than a 7.5.

Red labels are my favorite as well. I would also love it if CBCS would also add character pictures to the labels like CGC has just recently started doing as well.

If the viagra is working you should be well over a 9.8. xkonk private msg quote post Address this user

'breaks color' is the worst. Notes say:
light fade to front cover
light edge & corner wear spots breaks color
small creasing right of Thor breaks color

Glad to see you took pictures of the signatures. When I got this slabbed, I didn't realize there was a second signature on the inside. I'll never see it unless I crack it open. I always recommend to people to take pictures if the signatures are on the inside prior to grading.

Oh yes - I agree the worst is breaks color.
And I definitely was not inferring 9.4 (for example). It just seems the overall grade with the small amounts of breaks color and the overall appeal of the book is better than 7.5.
I was at East Coast Comicon this weekend and looked at a SS #4 by CBCS graded at 7.0. It had creases and abrasions AND color breaks.
A 0.5 grade lower seemed like either that one was off base or this one shown is off base.

I dunno - I'm usually within 0.5 of a grade. I was expecting this one to be an 8.5

When I come down off the grading fence and get some books submitted I look forward to the red label option with CBCS. Back in the 80's and 90's most of the creators I would meet would sign on the inside front page. One such book that I have is the two issue Silver Surfer series that was written by Stan Lee with artwork by Moebius, I had both creators sign them and they did so on the inside front page and I knew that when I ever had them graded I would take a photo of the front page first so if I did decide to sell I could provide that image to the buyer, etc. Nice books you all have....
