Obscure Movie Recommendation Thread8941

I bought a meat grinder on amazon for $60 and it's changed my life. kaptainmyke private msg quote post Address this user
You guys have to watch "Thriller: They Call Her One Eye". It's the inspiration for Elle Driver. Also, Lady Snowblood was the inspiration for O-Ren Ishii. Tarantino just has good tastes in film and chops them up to his liking for his own re-imagined take. Reservoir Dogs was borrowed from "City Under Fire".

I love Water Hill, Jack Hill, Sergio Leone, Sergio Corbucci, etc

The Candy Snatchers was based on a true story too so that movie will make you cringe.

Just a follow up on Frankenstein's Army. It's all the vision of director Richard Raaphorst and checking out his fabulous artwork is a must see.

I had no way of knowing that 9.8 graded copies signed by Adam Hughes weren't what you were looking for. drchaos private msg quote post Address this user

He was going to be at a local Con & my brother & I were genuinely excited to meet him & talk about this movie. He passed a way about a week before the show. Sad we never got to meet him. We were legit upset over his passing.

You guys are mentioning mainstream movies! The title is of obscure movie recommendations.

Some mainstream movies in the past are obscure now. Dreamscape was not obscure when it came out.

I didn’t want to say anything, cuz I’m enjoying the contributions. But there are quite a few mainstream films popping up. 👍🏼

I know I've mentioned a couple that could be classified as "mainstream". However, they were not very well received and have become obscure in my mind. For instance, I know of very few people who actually saw "Night of the Comet" when it came out. Yet, it was a decent budget film with rising actors and actresses. "Firefox" was a big budget film starring Clint Eastwood, but flopped at the box office. Both of these movies I enjoy quite a bit. I've found that hardly anyone knows of either of these movies, even in my age bracket. So, if obscure means "relatively unknown", I'd argue that these qualify regardless of the producer or the actors.

I saw Firefox in the theater and liked it. Eastwood was pretty popular then, and I had enjoyed the "Any Which Way You Can" movies. Eastwood was also known for the Dirty Harry movies at that point, so a cold-war Russia thing sounded pretty good. I didn't know it flopped, being just a kid. Looking at the numbers now on IMDB, it seemed to have done pretty well. Budget of $18 million, grossing $47 million in the US, $70 million worldwide.

I guess it does rank #15 for Gross earning for 1982. I thought it flopped worse than that. But when you look at the list, pretty much everyone still knows the top 7 or 8. From there, you either grew up in that era or you are a real movie nut to know some of these. Biggest surprise on this list to me is "Author! Author!" at number sixty!!!

I just saw today, Netflix has a remake of this. Not sure if it is a movie or a TV show, but I assume the latter. Might be interesting.

Wow ... I saw most of those in the theater. I sure did love going to movies when I was 11. And apparently, managed to see a lot of R-rated ones somehow.

Ha! Remember Young Doctors in Love? That was a fun movie. And Night Shift! I was so disappointed that The Fonz wasn't cool in that one. It kind of ruined it for me.

I considered Blade Runner to be a flop despite it being my favorite movie that year. It got bad reviews from everyone I knew and everything I read. It ranked #27. Young Doctors in love ranked higher. Sheesh.
