I mailed 10 books to CBCS on July 5th. I got an email today saying they are in grading! Also did anyone notice that their banner now says TATs are at 5 weeks? That’s amazing!

Don't stress the pressing.

I was beside myself for 46 days because nothing showed up in my dashboard. My six books showed up as "submitted" on the 16th (two days ago) and when I called today, I was told they are in grading and signature verification now (talked to a nice guy named Aaron). Apparently, books don't always appear in the dash until they're back from pressing, or some such.

If what people are saying in this thread holds true for me, I might even get these books back sooner than expected!

@Paint_Monk I get a little feisty when the timeline changes for no good reason. When I sent in my books ~13 weeks ago, the website and everything else made it sound like pressing was at 10-12 weeks. Then Ricketts says that they're actually at like 16 weeks. My books are on my dash, I'm not worried about them being lost or anything. I just want to set my expectations.

I know I'm not ahead of the curve because my order has press screen and I haven't been billed for anything. I guess there's some chance nothing I sent needed pressing but I would be surprised. So I guess I'm just chilling for another month before I get to experience these killer TATs.

@xkonk I don't blame you for being feisty. If you see my posts on this same page from a few days and weeks ago, I was pretty worried and more than a little frustrated. I'm a newbie, so maybe my "rookie factor" has a little to do with my apprehensions, too.

My card hasn't been charged yet either, but the CBCS rep told me today it would be charged in the next 48-72 hours. The first time I submitted a book, my card wasn't charged until it was actually shipped after they had it for 141 days, which I thought was odd.

I finally came off the grading fence and submitted my first order ever around the end of June, opting for fast pressing first by mistake. While my account shows "processing" I verified that the books are already finished with pressing and are in Dallas going through the signature verification on a few books. When they arrive, they arrive, I waited years to submit, I am fine with waiting a few months or longer to get the back and just be surprised to see what they grade at when that time comes. But I am not faulting anyone who is anxious either, I am sure for everyone here it's that feeling of Christmas morning when you were a kid when the CBCS box arrives, so I too am looking forward to that experience.

Trust me, if there's one thing you don't want it's for someone to rush through the process of pressing your books. There are a lot of people out there that press books themselves that aren't using the right equipment, techniques and allowing the right amount of time to do the job correctly. When it's done improperly it can damage a book.

If you're submitting books to CBCS for pressing it's definitely going to add to your TAT but you can rest assured that Ricketts is going to do the job the right way.

Tim, as I mentioned in my other post, I'm not worried about my books at all. I've had other orders pressed by Steve and CBCS and it was great. I also sent in orders around the bad moving time and knew they were going to be gone for half a year. I didn't mind that because I knew. What I mind is CBCS' constant inability to be straightforward with where things are at. When I sent in my order everything said 10-12 weeks for pressing, and now I come to find out it's 16. Why? And why can't you just update the website or the forum or somewhere so that people know what to expect? I'll send them in for 16 weeks, I just want to know it's 16 weeks.

i agree Tim 👍 I to was worried because my first ever pressing submission was this past hero’s con and I’m still not showing anything on my dash but I met Steve and spoke with him over email and he assured me they are there but they are behind on things and catching up🤗! I told Steve thanks for confirming they had them and to take his time so they come back beautifully pressed 🤗! I don’t mind the wait I just needed assurance they at least had them🤣. But I have felt better sense I have talked to steve🤗. Steve is a great guy and I can’t wait to see what he does to make my books look good👍😎 thanks team CBCS

@xkonk @Virgincollector I understand what you're saying. Our system doesn't always reflect the status of an order accurately. During the last 5 years we've had 4 different programing teams working on it and that seems to be problematic at times from a programing perspective. It seems that things that should be as simple as turning a feature on/off can affect other parts of the system that, technically, it shouldn't.

Short of scrapping the whole thing and starting over there's no easy solution from what I understand. At present, that's not an option they're willing to choose.

Hi Tim,

I have the easiest most basic solution to this problem. Post the TAT as a topic title for a thread (that cannot be replied to) then remove it and add a different one once the TAT's change. Bingo, Bango, done!

@sportshort If one of the other mods has the time and is willing to do that I wouldn't oppose it. I, however, am about to embark on a 6 week tour.

London Film & Comic Con
Tampa Bay Comic Con
Terrificon
New Mexico Comic Expo
Fan Expo Canada
Indiana Comic Con

Then I get a week off from traveling before Rose City Comic Con.

I turned my books in to the CBCS booth at Las Vegas Comic Con on June 22nd. My books were in the system and processing by July 1st. By the second week of July all 7 books were in grading. All 7 books have been graded as of today with 4 - 9.8's and 1 - 9.6 for my moderns and a 9.4 and 8.0 for my two bronze age books. That's right at 5 weeks for the grading which is amazing since my last submission last year took almost 4 months due to the hurricane disaster in Florida. Super exited to receive my books and will definitely stay with CBCS from here out. Keep up the great work guys.

Edit: Comic Con was the week prior on the 16th which put it at 6 weeks from submission day, which is awesome. I also forgot to mention that 3 of my books were submitted for signature certification with all 3 coming back as verified. Outstanding!!

@timeBildhauser Hopefully someone is reading this and takes it to heart or maybe needs a little direction from you. Even though I had an issue with my very first submission to CBCS I am still optimistic, because of all the great people on these forums and their positive feedback, I just dropped off 6 books for grading at SDCC. Fingers crossed.

P.S. I envy your international jaunt. Lucky...

I brought two books (and dragged Mike Royer) to the CBCS booth at SDCC Wednesday night (Black Panther #1 & Kamandi #2 Double Cover- Both were from Mike's collection and signed Met Jake- Nice guy- We shared a laugh). He said both labels will reflect the provenance.

All in all, SO easy. So far my first impression on my first sub here is positive.

If I sub again, it'll only be at a con. Sooo easy and fast!

Sigh. Yesterday I called to make a minor change to an error on the invoice and was told now (by the same rep named Aaron, I believe) that the books are still in pressing.

At this point, I'm just shutting my mouth until the books are back. While CBCS final product is amazing, their communication is really, really bad.

Just FYI for all, in May I used the CBCS "Raw Grade" service for the first time. I was told they would turn around quick. I literally had the books back in home no more than 14 days after I took them to the post office. I think they were graded and shipped within 3 days of being recieved. I've put together another 16 books that I plan to send off next week for this service.

The books present great in the thick Mylite bag, I just wish they would add a second backing board for increased protection before putting the "tamper-evident" stickers on the bags.

Also important; of the original shipment I've sold 5 books on Ebay for prices that I never could have gotten without the CBCS grading.

@SteveRicketts - Sorry to bother the busiest guy at CBCS, but I received a notice this morning saying my latest order is ready to ship. I am going on vacation this Saturday, so if it didn’t ship today or by early tomorrow, it will probably arrive on Saturday when no one will be around to sign for it. Then FedEx will try once or twice more to get a signature, give up, and probably ship it back to Texas as undeliverable! Can I request that they hold off shipping until the end of next week if it hasn’t shipped? (Yes, asking for longer TATs!)
Thanks,
Ed

If you received a note saying it is ready to ship, it probably already shipped today and they'll enter the tracking number tomorrow morning. Once you get the tracking number, you can have FedEx hold the package at their office for you to pick up. I think you can also have it held at places like Walgreens or CVS. You'll have to look around for other places that will hold the packages for you.
