Quote:Originally Posted by GAC I've been pleasantly surprised as well!! I say pleasantly because I was half way expecting a backlash!!! Almost every time I voice my disfavor for the FF, I get shot down. It's almost sacrilegious to even think that with some people!! Personally, I think it is because I grew up with the FF in the late 70's, early 80's. Quite honestly, they sucked back then. On that note, I think The Avengers from that same time period is extremely underrated!!! I enjoyed the Avengers tremendously, even when they would switch the line up. It kind of made it more real. I mean, life happens and things change. I liked seeing that reflected in a superhero group. |

| What's your favorite comic book series? Manhunter Vol. 3 by Marc Andreyko. Got me back into comics after a long hiatus. What's your least favorite comic book series? I’ll probably get hate for this, but I gave up on the Joe Kelly Deadpool series pretty fast. I didn’t hate it, it just didn’t grab me. What's your favorite superhero team? X-Men. That 90’s animated series was HUGE for me. What's your least favorite superhero team? I hate to say Fantastic 4, given that they’ve been beaten up a bit, but they’re the first to come to mind. I respect their place in history & I’d LOVE to have an FF #1, but I have no interest in them as a reader. What's your all time favorite comic book issue? Saga of the Swamp Thing #21. The writing is just SO good. The sci-fi fan in me can’t get over how much is encapsulated in that one issue. What's your favorite era to collect? Silver Age. I’d do Golden Age if I could afford it. Which comic book (series or character), got you hooked into comics? Superman. The idea that someone could have that kind of power & stay noble was inspiring. Then they went and killed him (for a hot minute). Who's your favorite comic book superhero? Black Widow Who's your favorite comic book character who is NOT a superhero? Josie Schuller From ‘Lady Killer’? Lara Croft from ‘Tomb Raider’? I dig a strong female lead. Who's your favorite comic book artist? Sorry it’s such a pedestrian choice, but, Alex Ross. What's your "secret pleasure" comic book to collect? Nothing I can think of. I’m sort of unapologetic if I dig something enough to collect it. What do you collect that may surprise people? Not a shocker or anything, but I was into movies long before I was into comics. As a kid, I could watch 3 movies a day easy. I was stuck in a small town and it was my way to transport myself somewhere else for a bit. I have an extensive DVD/Blu-Ray collection. NEW: Favorite Graphic Novel? Batman: The Killing Joke. NEW: Favorite Cover? Batman: Harley Quinn That Alex Ross painted cover of Joker & Harley? Magnificent. NEW: Hidden/useless talent? I’m double jointed and can literally clap with one hand. Seriously. |

| It’s so difficult to look at one thing and say “this is my favorite”, especially when it seems so relative to the era in which it was published. As far as least favorites, I give no thought to that at all since I would rather focus on what I do like. As far as my favorite comic book series I would break it down like this: For Golden Age I would go with Carl Barks’ Donald Duck work, which is simply incredible in both story and art and is something everyone should read. For Silver Age I would go with Amazing Spider-Man 1-40, just barely edging out Fantastic Four 1-50 as the best of the era. In the Bronze Age I would take Claremont and Byrne’s X-men as the best work from that period. Copper Age would be Watchmen, hands down. I quit buying new comics back in 1992, so I am not really qualified to judge modern comics. As far as the comic that hooked me on comics, I would say the Marvel Treasury Edition that reprinted Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1 was the first comic that really blew my mind, probably around age six. X-Men was the first comic that I seriously collected as it was the title that started me searching for back issues. Buying X-men 138, 142 and Avengers Annual #10 off the stands were key experiences in my youth. Nowadays I am most focused on collecting Golden Age and early Silver Age, let’s say pre-1960. So much of this stuff is being reprinted in quality hardcover collections, making available what was once unobtainable. Not sure if I have a single favorite cover, but I am somewhat partial to Hot Stuff #1. Just so simple and effective. As far as non superhero characters go, I am a huge Bugs Bunny fan, perhaps more for the cartoons than the comics. I also love Donald Duck, all the Harvey Comics characters and I also enjoy Conan. Can’t say I have a particular favorite artist. I enjoy all the old masters. As a group I would point to the EC artists. In every EC comic you get to experience a variety of masterful artistic styles under a single set of covers, which is a pretty incredible experience. Hopefully this wasn’t too meandering. I never was good at filling out forms. |

Quote:Originally Posted by dielinfinite I loved that issue, and actually that whole series. I had been out of collecting for a few years in high school because it wasn't "cool", so when I stopped in an LCS randomly and saw the first issue, I bought it based off of Bradstreet's cover art. Mind blown. Ennis and Dillon revitalized Puniher and lit the cash registers on fire with the "Welcome Back, Frank" storyline. I couldn't wait for new issues to come out from that series. #3 is just an exceptionally well done issue, and a great entry into the DD vs Punisher catalog. |

Quote:Originally Posted by Jesse_O I agree that Fantastic Four really tanked after Stan Lee gave up the reins. There were a ton of stinkers in there from that point until John Byrne came on in the early 80s and brought it back to basics. Also completely agree that Avengers is one of the most consistently excellent titles of the 1980s. Very underrated. Iron Man was also very solid during the entire decade of the 80s and is another run that doesn’t get the respect it deserves. |
