Major X's first/cameo appearance??8759

Collector kevinlmillard private msg quote post Address this user
I have a question for the moderators on this one. What is CBCS going to consider Major X's first appearance? He appeared on the cover oDeadpool #10 on a Liefeld exclusive. Yesterday in Major X #1, Now it has come out that he is in the background in Spider-man Deadpool #10 a couple weeks ago. So what will CBCS mark these appearances as?

The way Liefeld is behaving I am amazed there are still people who likes his work.

I'd imagine that CBCS will side with Rob. They usually respect the artist wishes. Plus, it sounds like DP 10 came out before Spider-Man/DP 47. I'm just speaking from my viewpoint and I don't know the official CBCS position.

Cover appearances do not count as a first appearance

Tries to cash in in the first appearance market with an exclusive for $100 on his site. Doesnt understand the concept of cameo/1st full. Flips out when the market wants 47 over his exclusive, yet beither are first full and all his is a first cover. LOL

What gets marked as Gwenpool's first appearance? Seems like it would be a similar situation.

So a Cable clone and a deadpool clone appear in a comic

Nothing new here. Just desperate grasps at a dying idea

I can understand Mr. Liefeld's irritation, you get back into the spotlight with the Deadpool movie coming out (While we all know how much he actually contributed to the modern character) debuting a new character for Marvel and you get scooped on your own creation...that being said, he doesn't have to be such an ass about it.

It seems like it was an honest mistake and unintentional, I checked my Spider-Man Deadpool 47 and I had to look REALLY...REALLY hard to find Major X in there. I completely missed it on the first read.

Matt Horak is going to be at NFCC in June, wonder if he'll be willing to sign SMDP 47?! LOL

Really because The Batman who laughs first appears in Dark Knights Metal 2 according to the creator

I looked through Spider-Man/Deadpool 47 and could not locate the supposed Major X cameo. If anyone here has seen it and has an image I would be interested in seeing it. It felt like "where's waldo" trying to find it.

I see this as just a quick money grab for people on ebay, kind of like Hawkeye vs Deadpool #0. First Spier-Gwen debate. It will be hot for the weekend then die off. Rob takes a lot of heat from people, but I can tell you after meeting him a few times he is one of the nicest people I've met at the cons.

If I recall correctly, this was also perpetrated, long after it had died, by that app.

I'm not sure how the creator has a say in what is the first appearance?? If a publisher printed something with that character in another series before the primary series ran, then that would be the first appearance as maybe a cameo. First full appearance would be the story that actually has the character. Just being on a cover is NOT a first appearance but a first cover appearance.

In my opinion (which nobody cares about), CBCS needs to become a fully legitimate grading company by not cow-tailing to creator's whims. This bullshit with creator's saying "you can't witness my signature unless you work for xyz company", for example, is crazy Take a look over at PCGS for coin grading. You think they care a wit about what a mint says about a coin/bill. They will grade it from their professional perspective. Imagine the estate of George Washington saying they couldn't grade anything with his likeness. They would just laugh at how ridiculous that sounds. The comic grading companies allowing this pissing contest stuff is just hurting the legitimacy of the business. If you have someone authorized to witness a signature, then its valid if a creator signed in front of them and has zero bearing based on what the creator thinks or has to say. First appearances are what the industry standard says it is, not what a creator says it is. Be a grading company and do it well and relegate all that crap to the background noise.

I'm not sure who is more at "fault" here, Liefeld or Marvel. Marvel asks Rob to create a new character and book so he makes them a NEW character knowing full well they will own the rights to said character. Then Marvel reaches out to the creative team of a different book (Spider-man / Deadpool) and says "Hey, here's a new character Rob made" so they use it. So then Rob counters with a LiefeldCreations exclusive to be released before that. But it's cover appearance only.

Do cover appearances without in-story appearance now count?
What will happen to Gwenpool?
Can creators determine 1st appearances or is it left up to the market?
Would it be considered a cameo or a full 1st?

Seems like this is how it would go: 1st Cameo, 1st cover, 1st Full

The first cover app of Gwenpool goes for a fair amount, but I feel that one was not forced like Major X. The Gwenpool cover started as a joke and then fandom ran with it. Marvel then figured they had something and developed the character.

Meh... this is so lame. it's a whack character.

It's cooler when a character makes a debut and builds cred.

This is Liefeld's attention/money grab at relevance again. He's jealous Spawn is still relevant and about to drop a movie. lol

I disagree highly. Gwenpool's first appearance was on the cover of Deadpool's Secret Wars 2 in June 2015. Over the summer girls were cosplaying Gwenpool at conventions and Marvel took notice. That came out waaaay before the November release of Howard the Duck #1 vol 6 is in January 2016...

I don't see why the separation in time matters. The question is if a cover appearance alone is enough to be called a 'first appearance'. Is Deadpool's Secret Wars 2 labeled as the first appearance of Gwenpool? After that you can get into the whole 'how do you decide if a cameo counts/but what about Gambit/blah blah blah' question.

For a non-Gambit data point on that last part, Captain Marvel 14 and 17 are listed as the first and second cameo appearances of Kamala Khan, and they are true one or two panel cameos. The obnoxiously named All New Marvel Now Point One is listed as the first full appearance. Ms Marvel 1 might say that she becomes the new Ms Marvel. Captain Marvel 14 and Point One are the money books according to gocollect.

Agreed.

Some quick googling says that Howard the Duck is labeled as Gwenpool's first appearance but Deadpool's Secret Wars might be selling for a little bit more but not a big difference, and neither is a big-value book.
