Do you have to protect your slabs from say scratches?8624

Collector no1lufcfan private msg quote post Address this user
I have just purchased some black plastic storage bins for my relatively new slab collection.

Some of the slabs that I have purchased come in a plastic sleeve/bag and other have not.

Is it necessary to put your slab in a sleeve/bag etc to help prevent scratches etc or what do you more experienced guys do?

I would recommend using bags for protection from scatches from the adjacent slabs. Just like for raw comics, you can buy cheap bags or more expensive Mylar ones.

PS - I hate comic bags that are self-stick/seal, but I would definitely recommend that feature on the slab bags.

@no1lufcfan

I was curious as to how you like the box you posted a picture of. In addition, does it have handles or handle holes for carrying the box?

In regards to your question, I dont touch my comics very often after I purchase them or have them graded. Once they go in the box, they hang out there for a very long time.

I'm thinking with a moderate amount of care they should be fine.

I just got the exact same box for my slabs because we are moving in a couple of months and wanted to ensure my slabs were safe. The box works perfect. Not much for handles if I had to nit pick. But easy enough to maneuver around. It comes with 1 partition already so you don’t have to fill the empty space with other stuff to keep the slabs standing up. Great purchase. You will enjoy it.
I do not have bags on mine and haven’t dealt with any scratches yet. But I also don’t handle mine much either.

I had no way of knowing that 9.8 graded copies signed by Adam Hughes weren't what you were looking for. drchaos private msg quote post Address this user
If you are going to resell a slabbed book be very careful with it

I have had many high grade books and buyers ask about the condition of the case more than anything else.

Such is the nature of this hobby.

We need a grading company that will encapsulate and grade the slab. So we'd all be looking for the 9.8 comic encapsulated in a 9.8 slab. 😀

I actually got mine in a pack of 5 from ebay.com as postage for me worked out a lot cheaper that way.... although they stung me for custom duties....on a plastic bin fer crying out loud

@KatKomics @Bronte As @billkruser5 said. Boxes very sturdy and little indents for handles... I would recommend these boxes

thanks for all the repies guys

I love the BCW graded bins. As for bags, I really like the BCW 2 mil polypropylene. I think I paid $14 for 100.

I use the black boxes and put a sheet of cardboard between each slab. Almost all of them have the plastic bag.

I love the black boxes for the slabs I’m going to keep.
