Captain Marvel - with SPOILERS8541

Collector poka private msg quote post Address this user
Just seen Captain Marvel or Mar Vell. Provides the background of Carol Danvers and how she became the most powerful superhero in the galaxy. Unstoppable - untouchable.

The best part: the Cat (my wife agrees)
The worst part: the Story - cheasy
What I thought I was watching: Star Wars
Best actor/actress: Samuel Jackson as Fury
Worst actor/actress : Brie Larson (my wife disagrees)
Best scene: involves a Cat
Stan Lee: his cameo is in the start - no talking.
Post credit scenes: 2 - 1 at the very very last. 1st ok - plays on the Avengers story. 2nd - ok but not really worth staying for if in a hurry

What do you think?

OMG, the trailer for Shazam looks awful! In hind sight Shazam was a cheesy character so maybe I'll catch it on Netflix. Nuff said..

Didn’t see it yet
You didn’t spoil anything
Is it worth seeing?
Which Star Wars is it like ? Good old Star Wars or terrible SW like TLJ?

It is worth watching if you like marvel movies and have nothing better to do. If you don’t watch it - you will probably still be able to watch the avengers without missing much. The main scenes relating to avengers are towards the end and the post credit scenes (and of course understanding how she got her powers).

Like a newer Star Wars movie.

Brie Larson has made some negative comments about white men. I guess she doesn't know who the biggest audience is for her movie. I had assumed this would be one of the worst movies from Marvel Studios. These reviews seem to be on track to confirm that. I'm actually tempted to skip the movie entirely.

This again? Did you actually watch the film and understood the context in which she said it?

@X51 I haven't seen the video but if Brie Larson did make negative comments about any specific demographic I won't be seeing the movie. @Gabriel85301 do you by any chance have a link to the video? I'm just curious, I should probably be doing more important things with my life.

I saw the context in snippets and know it's not as bad as it had been conveyed to me. Don't really care. Nothing about her impresses me.

The whole movie is a cluster@#$% of lame characters replacing one they should have never killed in the comics.

Flat, like her performance.

Movie wasn't bad.

It would seem that Brie Larsen did a horrible job of promoting it.

The biggest problem with the movie was that in the last forty minutes or so, once our protagonist learns the nature of her powers, Captain Marvel becomes way too overpowered.

There was no one in this movie including the very capable Ronan the Accuser that could even hope to challenge her.

Also, the main character was not all that relatable. Reviews saying she had no personality or sense of humor are an exaggeration but we don't get to know our main character all that well with the amnesia and all.

We had something similar with Wolverine but he had a very distinct personality while Captain Marvel did not.

Movie was OK with a good performance by Sam Jackson and the cat stealing a few scenes.

Jude Law was good but the villains as a whole could have been better.

I saw it last night. I'd heard mixed reviews and kept my expectations low. I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

But I agree with drchaos. Her character fell very flat for me. There just wasn't much there. At least with Wolverine, you could tell he was wrestling with demons, even though he couldn't remember where they came from. Even when they did show flashbacks of her past, there wasn't much to her then, either. they tried to push her theme "No one's going to keep me down." Which is a nice sentiment. But she had no profound connection to anyone else in the movie. The human connections they hint at, she can't really remember. I don't know if it was the script, or the performance that had this effect. maybe both. It's frustrating because she's supposed to be the tent pole character moving forward into phase 4, as I understand it.
I agree the cat had the best scenes, for the most part. And I loved Stan Lee's cameo.
I think I actually found the Ant Man movies more entertaining as a whole. Aw well.

I just saw it. Probably the weakest Marvel film so far. I agree with @Pokas assessment. SLJ carried the film. The girl wasn't that good. It was like star wars meets alien nation.

I saw it last night with my wife. We liked it a lot. Great special effects and story. Admittedly, Brie Larson is boring. Robotic. Uninteresting. Sure, she's a pretty lady, but that's not enough to carry the weight of MCU.

Saw it with my son, we both liked it, our family has cats and those scenes were great. All in all I would say on at least on par with or better than the first Thor or Antman or really any of the multiple Hulk movies!!!!
Looking forward to the next Avengers installment and future stand alone Captain Marvel movies.

Also as an aside...I have never read a Carol Danvers Mrs. Marvel book - there was enough in the movie to interest me that I think I might get a trade or something and try to read some of the better story lines with this character.

and i like the theory about secret invasion and why new avengers #1 and 40 from 2005 might be worth picking up if marvel will continue with the Skrulls and Thalos’s daughter will become a character of interest given she was introduced in the movie

On my no spoilers post I said I liked it and gave it an 8.0. I liked most of it,however Brie Larson's acting was not that great. Her character lacked emotion most of the time. I actually really liked Lashana Lynch role as Maria Rambeau. Her character expressed a lot more passion. I also like that they had her daughter Monica Rambeau. I feel we will be seeing more of Monica as an adult in the near future. I also liked Goose. Samual Jackson always delivers. He was top notch.
