So I assume this has been brought up before but I am new to buying moderns. Does removing the sticker and using the online code affect the value at all? I am looking to buy the Immortal Hulk run and the seller states they used the code.

The CGC forums seem to say that it would be noted on the slab if missing but otherwise not affect the grade. Looks like CBCS will note it and cap the grade at 9.6 with a checkmark https://forum.cbcscomics.com/topic/669/can-digital-codes-effect-grades/ This looks like an example https://www.ebay.com/itm/MARVEL-WEAPON-X-7-CBCS-9-4-Digital-Code-Sticker-Removed-/302917112571 |

Wouldn't it take a hit - kind of like with or without tattoos like ASM 238??

Why would they "cap" the grade? As mentioned in one of the threads provided, we are in a digital age. I realize the sticker is still needed for those who purchase off the shelf. Comics in bags may be a better solution, such as the "Combo packs" DC did, but that (I presume) would be unnecessary additional costs for the publisher (i.e., they will not bag comics). Therefore, how should the industry approach this? For those slabbing codes, I presume they would expire before they would be used (i.e., someone crack the slab). What about an option (likely with an additional cost) where companies will remove and provide the code to the submitter without injuring the grade? That would not help this particular thread's question, but possibly a number of issues people mess with. |

High grade books have always required people to leave some of the experience behind be it Marvel Value Stamps, order forms, coupons, trading cards, and now digital codes. The comics industry really has no responsibility to make their products beholden to grading standards. I’m also not sure what the digital code providing servide would solve. The issue is not that the code is used it’s that the sticker was removed, which they would still have to do. I think the solution would be that if you want both the digital comic AND the 9.6+ grade then just pay the extra $3-$5 to buy a copy of the book digitally. They could also do what manufacturers do with gift cards where checking out through the point of sale system is what activates the product and the point of sale system generates a code that is printed on the receipt for the customer to redeem. I’d imagine that would require limit the number of retailers that could provide such a service as a simple cash register couldn’t do that and it might require some set up costs on the part of the manufacturer that they may or may not be willing to invest Quote: Originally Posted by moodswing They come off pretty cleanly from what I understand |

As recently as the 2015-2016 price guide, the price was listed as the same with or without the decal. In fact, they used to go out of their way to say a missing decal had no impact on the book's value. |

Sorry I cannot give anymore details as it would fall under the realm of "discussing alteration techniques" according to board rules and community guidelines.
