A guy messaged me saying he has comics for sale.

One being a Restored vintage Action Comics. I quickly found the same book (same exact pictures) on e-bay. I’m in Northern California & this listing is in Connecticut.

Now he says he has this:

Which I found on MyComicShop.com. Identical.

How does MyComicShop work? Do they have the book on hand? Or does the seller ship to them once it sells?

I’m feeling suspicious to say the least.

Have him send multiple pictures with his name on a piece of paper or a unique word.

They say their graders inspect them, so I assume they have them. I buy consignment items from them all the time, along with their stock, and I never see a delay.
I say it's a scam.
Did you mention finding the AC on eBay? Can we ask where he messaged you?

I wouldn't buy anything from the person who messaged you.

It started when he responded to a piece of original art I have on OfferUp.

He asked if I’d be interested in some Baseball cards. I said no, but I’d be interested in vintage comics. He asked for my number to send pics.

And now I get this:

To which I said “that’s cool. Loot Crate reprint?”

And he says “It’s the real one. How much can you offer me?”

He’s either naive, or playing games.

I asked him to send a pic of the inside cover. No response yet.

Simple questions to him ..where ya from? How did you find me?any references? What is your eBay name? How about a phone number I’ll call u ... then do some detective work..he will balk ...then more particular question about items he allegedly is moving... he won’t be able to answer..

He overplayed his hand with that.

On a different note, I have this for sale, if anyone is interested.

The best way to deal with this kind of people is to take up as much of their time as possible. So tell him you have difficulty deciding and ask him what else he has got lol

Yeah. First thing I did was look up the certification #.

Then replied “That one looks like it’s on MyComicShop.com for sale.”

He said, “I have that one”.

I replied, “Ok. Like, In a slab, same grade? Or a raw copy of the same book?”

He wrote back, “I gotta look again but the purple label one is the one I wanna sell.”

That being the Action Comics he first told me about.

Noo - waste his time so he does not scam someone else

Like this buyer who bought a 1974 reprint worth $3 thinking it was the real deal (probably seller thought so too)

It has no price on the cover and the original has yellow fenders. I don't think any reprints have yellow fenders.

I'm also in CT. Let me know where I can pick it up. Offer $5 which I think may be the going rate for this loot crate reprint.

Such a weird story. I understand there are scammers out there but this is way over the top. How on Earth could this guy think this is an original AC 1 or that he could fool someone into believing it is? What price is he offering it at??? MCS does sell their consignment comics both on their website and ebay at the same time.

that will make his day.

He wanted to know what I’d give him for it. (Red flag)

I literally received the pic of the Action Comics 1 as I was posting this thread.

To be clear, the first Action Comics he sent me pics of is a later issue at 4.5 in a Purple label slab, not the reprint of #1.

I thought it was possible he had the same issue, but sent a pic off the web at the moment just to say “here’s one I have. Not this specific copy, but this issue.

Still a weird move, but at least it would explain things.
