@mrelowe - That Shazam! #1 at 9.4 would make sense, based on those grader’s notes. And that Spidey looks a lot closer to a 7.5 than a 9.4. Case solved?

@esaravo I think that it may be. I still think 7.5 is generous for that ASM. I honestly expected lower.

@esaravo Yes it is beautiful. This "9.4" is my first copy. I have another at 6.0 from across the street. I would love to have a real 9.4 copy. I know I could get one already graded, but I like the hunt to find one free in the wild.

@Wraith Yeah, I got two RESTORED in this batch. Didn't expect that from either. I need some restoration detection training. This submission will be remembered as the Highs and Lows submission. 9.8's and Restorations. lol |

Maybe there are collectors out there that look for mistakes like this & you could sell this copy on feebay for a profit then use that money to buy another copy.

No update today. Didn't get the call yesterday but I'm sure it will be coming soon. @poka These notes are reflective of what I see in the book. The 9.4 is an obvious mistake and looking at the Shazam! #1 notes, the 7.5 doesn't seem to fit either. |

UPDATE I got a personal call from Steve Borock tonight. We discussed the order and the picture of the book. We discussed the theory of a switch between the Shazam or the Marvel Premiere. From the notes, he stated that the Shazam would not fit the 9.4 grade but to send both books back and he would personally look at both. Maybe the Shazam grade won't change, but I'll just be glad to have the correct grade. I know that most people would not ask for a lower grade, but if I wanted inflated grades I would submit to the more questionable company. I did think of a plausible reason for the mistake, albeit after our conversation and packing up the books to return. I use a spreadsheet to keep track of my graded inventory. I use a pull down box for the grades. I can also type in a number and it will filter out the choices that don't include the number. If you look at all the possible grades, only 3 contain a 4. If the book graded out as a 4.0 or a 4.5, then a 9.4 would also show when I type in the 4 in the box. One missed click, and voila, a 4.5 becomes a 9.4. This could be an easy mistake for a group scrambling to catch up on grading. This is assuming that the software used is similar. |

It's a little bit embarrassing for them though given they recently released a PA on Facebook to be careful some books in slabs of competitors were incorrectly labelled / graded. QA needs to have enough steps for cross checks / redundancy to block these mishaps. Not everyone is honest like yourself. |

@Wraith Don't praise me. Anyone could look at that book and see that it was not 9.4. It would have been a headache to anyone that sold it. I can tell you from experience that the scenario that I outlined in the previous thread is easy to make. I imagine that QC was looking for label to match data, book title listed on label to match the one in the case, labels and case to be without defect, and cosmetic blemishes to the case. I doubt QC is told to give judgment call on if grade matches what they believe the book's grade is. I have no hard feelings about this. I got to talk one on one with Steve Borock and they are correcting it and plus. I can tell you that I will never forget this submission and that book will have a honored place in my collection. I love a book with a story! |

Update. The grade on the Shazam! Has been confirmed as accurate at 7.5 and will not be regraded. The Asm 194 is set to bee regraded and returning. Not sure how long, but was told it would be graded soon.

I'm more interested in how this could have happened, and how often it's happening. I have a Werewolf By Night 32 that came back as a 7.5 WP and it looks like it just came off the press - albeit some "soiling" on the backside that looks to be easily removed. I still don't know what I'm going to do about it. Nice selection of books! |

Here is the update. The Shazam! has been confirmed to be a 7.5 and did not get regraded. The ASM 194 did get regraded and is coming in at a 3.5. Since Steve Borock graded it personally, it is plausible that it was originally a 4.0 that was keyed in as 9.4. I believe that the regrade got a stricter grade and is correctly done. Both books are on their way back to me and should be delivered Wednesday. All in all, this has been a good experience and I am still glad that CBCS stands behind the product and will make it right. Can't wait to get my books back, and as an added bonus, my other order is finished and set to be delivered on Thursday. Two orders on back to back days. |

I will get the following back from my January 17 submission. I did fast pass and I am glad that I did. I don't expect high grades, but I am happy to have these back in my PC. Green Lantern #2 Green Lantern #3 Green Lantern #6 Green Lantern #12 Green Lantern #59 Green Lantern #76 I also have Free Comic Book Day from 2012 that is the first appearance of Simon Baz. I won't know their grades until they are taken out of the box. |

Quote:Originally Posted by Wraith I really don't think that this happens often. They were extremely confused about it. I think that the backlog in Standard may have something to do with it. I really think that it was a 4.0 that was a mistaken click. The only grades possible with a 4 are 4.0, 4.5, and 9.4. My book came back 3.5 so if the original grader typed 4 and then clicked 9.4 by mistake, it could explain how that could have happened. |
